Yeah I think I'll run with it for now.

I 've seen the recent thread on the the workshop page http://www.400greybike.cc/newforum/view ... =24&t=2926. Thinking, If I go down this route I'd go for a Suzuki reg/rec as I've seen a lot of reports saying they're very reliable.

Whilst mooching around on the net I also found this article http://www.one-ring.net/vfrfaq/reg-rect.html.

Has anyone tried this and think its worth doing ? I have an old pentium pc lying around gathering dust figure since my reg/rec doesn't have fins sticking the fan on could help improve its life span, thoughts ?

Whilst I'm at it; seems that every nut, bolt and washer is corroded. Anyone have any idea what volume and types I'd need to replace them all ? And where's the best place to get a whole load of new one's ? M&P/Pro Bolt seem to be the common choice.

Seems a good idea - was thinking about fitting some sort of finned cooler to mine?? A fan would def.work tho!
Best plan would be to either remove & measure the bolts needed, then buy from a local bikeshop in stainless steel, or buy one of the big mixed tubs off eBay etc - probably wont have enough of one lot or too many of another but gives you plenty of spares anyways!

Didn't have a chance to post these on the weekend, just a few picks of the bike so far:

Image Image Image

Sub-frame has a few spots of rust, but I'll be doing a re-spray on that. Unusual breather pipe fitted where the oil filler cap should be, any thoughts on what to do about this? The bolt has been rounded off so reckon someone's had a go at getting it off in the past.

The bike will be going up on the abba on the weekend and should be stripped down to the engine. So there will be a few more pictures soon.

Not had a chance to post for a while or work on the bike esp with all the bad weather and not having a garage

Anyway, the bike did go up on the abba and off came the sub-frame and rads.

The sub-frames not in the best condition, I've started to clean it up but thinking about the best options, spray or powder coat ? Also been thinking ahead about the paint job whats the poll:

Original RWB, Customer Dual Colours (I'm thinking Grey and White) much like CraigS or Single Colour (White).

I got a quote from a bloke on Gumtree £400 to go back to RWB, includes lacquer and vinyls. Personally think its on the steep side considering Spikes spend of £250. Anyone, got any contacts for painters and powder coaters around the Middlesex area?

Padwan that is a good price!! well if he does a good job that is!

As Spike has said, he is getting his freshened up in the same paint scheme!

To be Honest, if someone could do a RWB OEM pant job on my bike from top to toe for £400 i would have a lot more bits for sale to fund that!

89 spec colours i would imagine are the hardest to do, something simpler like spikes or mine would prob cost a little less (no offence) i love the 89 RWB, but after chatting with friends i think i only like it because its 89 RWB, ya get get me? nice for iconic reasons!

o so now my scheme is uncomplete, simple and second rate is it..... :o and who was it who wanted the pannels to have the colour scheme?

nah m8 just jokin with yah :D :) ;)

400 is a good price for a top to toe scheme including graphics, mine is a 'simpler' scheme that just involves masking off a load of triangles basicly (although aparently the tail was a b!tch) and my graphics were £65 on top of that (and im still not happy with them, not really impressed with image works).

Hey Spike,

Thanks for the input, unfortunately, you're too far away from me but thanks for the offer of the contact (I'm in Harrow, Middx in case anyone is wondering).

I didn't factor in that your paint work was already in that scheme. As you can see from the earlier photos at the moment mine is in a "retro" blue scheme. This chap has said he won't charge more to take it from one scheme to the next.

Hanna (if I may call you that?), you're quite right; now you've put it into context the price sounds good. I'll ask the chap about some pics of his previous work just to get a feel for how good/bad it may be. After your comment I'm seriously considering going back to the RWB scheme but could you post a pic of what the 89 RWB scheme looks like (just out of curiosity). My bike is a '92 "grey" (NH196) so figure it's the same colours as Spike's which I really like anyway.

I contacted them 3 times for graphics and they never even had the courtesy to reply.
