If it is of any help.

From another forum where somebody exported a car.
The whole of the V5, less the small export slip, is the de-reg slip from the UK.

When the car is exported from Japan it will have deregistration documentation produced. This has to be given to the DVLA when it's registered in the UK. The DVLA then destroy it when they issue the UK V5, to ensure that it's not possible to register two cars in the UK by re-using the same dereg docs. The UK V5 is then the only registration document for the car.

My R32 GT-R went to a lovely chappy in Sweden. We did all the digging around, including me verifying the above with the DVLA. For good measure I took a photocopy of the V5 before sending it off to Sweden, sans the small "vehicle exported" slip off the back. You then just post that slip back to the DVLA and they'll register the car as exported. The European buyer then just has to get the car back to his home and arrange to register it there using the remainder of the UK V5.

The plates stay on the car, as when DVLA receives and processes your "vehicle exported" slip they'll reintroduce the registration to the database of available plates (unless it was a private plate and you kept it on retention or transferred it etc. etc.).
So basically.. if you sell car to abroad, you send off the small 'Exported slip' to the DVLA and give the rest of it with the vehicle to the new keeper. This part of the V5 serves as the de-reg document and the small slip sent off to the DVLA lets them know it has gone bye bye.

The new keeper then sends the V5 to their local Tranport office in their country who does the rest.

Since the RVFs V5 in question has errors on it, the DVLA will issue the new forign owner with a corrected version, then he can send this to his transport office.. he doesn't have to send anything to the UK DVLA :)

Thanks for your input, that's how I have interpreted the workflow aswell. Although it's quite nervous to send off the original V5C as it's the single most important paper when registering the bike here.

As you most certainly know, us swedes like security, so I have already worked out a backup plan. Should all fail, I'll purchase a RVF frame with a (correct!) V5C on ebay and sort it out that way.

It should work out fine.

If you havn't sent it off yet it is best to make photocopy of the V5 you are sending off incase it gets lost in the post.

Thought I'd give you a status update.

I called Transportstyrelsen (eg Board of transportation = swedish DVLA) and got instructions to sort out the VIN issue with DVLA before starting the registration process in Sweden. Called DVLA and got an instruction to send in a letter with an explanation and the V5C. Took a high quality photo of the frame number and attached to the letter. About a month later I got an email from Marjorie at the DVLA. She asked me to fill out a form to enable her to issue a certificate of permanent export with the correct VIN.

Did so, and she sent me the certificate in the mail. Now, I've sent the certificate along with a ursprungskontroll (swedish for "verification of origin") request to the authoritites here in Sweden. They thought the copy of my receipt were incomplete due to the lack of my name and address, but other than that all was well.

So now I'm waiting for the GO-sign to register the bike here. After that, it's just until april before I can ride it.

I'll soon be one of the few RVF-owners in Sweden, and it feels good. Although my friend imported an VTR1000 SP-2 at the same time...

Well done :-)

It can be a bit of a pain.. but once you have done one bike any other ones become much easier!!

I hope it is a reliable machine and that you enjoy many years of riding it :-)
