It could be a dodgy kill switch? The bike will crank even when it's activated.

well the engine doesn't turn at all so i'm still pretty stumped????

Take the plugs out and leave the cylinders open for 24 hours. I found with mine that when the cylinders flood, the increased pressure of trying to start the engine results in, for want of a better term, a lock up of the cylinders and they won't turn over for love nor money.

Sounds like your NC24 is ill, you'd have to seriously put LOTS of fuel down there i'm talking 100's of ml's to cause a hyrdo-lock.. then it'd still crank till it locked, at which point it'd probably bend the con-rods if your battery and starter motor are in good nick.

If you had that much fuel in it, you should be able to remove the plugs and crank it, this will force ecess fuel out the plug holes.

I suspect its something else.. you really shouldn't be able to flood it enough to lock it unless your carbs are broken.


As for your not starting bike.. no cranking off the start switch?

Does the switch actually work? When you press it do you get anything? common things would be a click sound?

That was before I had sorted the carbs out and I was feeding them from a funnel. I got a bit over-enthusiastic with the jungle juice

It's running OK at the moment. Just need to fit the new air filter and balance the carbs.

Anyway.... back to the OP's bike, sorry for the hijack

In that case.

You either have a dead battery and there isn't enough power to turn the starter motor over (a clicking is the classic sign)

Have you charged the battery up fully before trying to start?

If so then the starter motor sounds jammed... if you look at the front of the engine you'll see the starter motor at the bottom, there are some small long bolts that hold it to the block. Check the connections to the starter motor are clean and still intact,

Remove the starter motor, you'll need to earth it to the block (NOT by the black cable.. that carries 12v) and try the switch, see if the starter motor turns then.

If not you have a bad starter motor.

ok so by earthing it, it should work but surely because the starter is bolted to the block it is already earthed???

ok guys, its been along time due to money but i've started back on the bike again, i've managed to, get the bike to turn now, and i can smell fuel coming out however the bike still won't start and i still don't knw why, the solenoid relay still clicks but won't turn the starter instead i have to bride the starter motor to the positive. any one gt any ideas as to why the switch still isn't working and when the starter motor does turn the bike won't start?

Had a problem with a solenoid once.
It was clicking like a machine gun and starter motor would not turn.
It was just corrosion on one of the solenoid terminals.
Cleaned it and bike starts every time
