have you checked the CDI??

mine failed a last week and was having the same simptoms connected a different one to it and fired up first puch of the started and run sweet.

Just brought a ignitech cdi well worth the investment

I had the same thing too. Swapped em and it was great but it was the blue restricted one so put the gold back in for the sake of it till i mod'd the speed limiter... The gold one started smoking and burnt out few days later.
