Re: VFR400 NC30 Thailand
Thank you spike, I'll try and take some more pics of her naked (my bike)......... (my NC30) lol
I have been pleasantly surprised at just how reliable and how much fun these NC30's are, of course the speed isn't quite up there with my previous bikes back home in the UK, but it certainly beats riding a Moped here in Thailand :D
Only thing i have to do to her is get the rev counter working properly, as when installing the running gear from an NC35 the previous owner didn't fit the NC35 rev counter pic ups, apparently there are 2 on an NC35 and i have just the one pick up on my NC30 engine.............. How on earth am i going to find those in Thailand :D

No comrehende?! Does your tacho work at all?karl BKK wrote: Only thing i have to do to her is get the rev counter working properly, as when installing the running gear from an NC35 the previous owner didn't fit the NC35 rev counter pic ups, apparently there are 2 on an NC35 and i have just the one pick up on my NC30 engine.............. Does this bike have an rvf engine (no paint) or vfr engine (metallic brownish paint)?
You have an rvf tacho which should work if it's an rvf engine and wiring loom. I have a vfr with rvf engine, loom & tacho and it's peachy.
FWIW the vfr's have 2 ignition pickups, rvf engine only has a single pickup. I don't think this is the problem for your tacho.

Re: VFR400 NC30 Thailand
As far as i can see it's the original VFR (NC30) engine, as the engine and chassis numbers match up. The engine has had a lick or paint, some thing the original owner must have done when fitting the RVF wiring loom.
So having an NC30 engine and an NC35 wiring loom would be the route of my problems?? The rev counter works fine up until around 4000rpm, any ideas?? :)

Re: VFR400 NC30 Thailand
I guess you need to see whether it actually has an rvf or vfr loom and cdi (black box under the pillion seat area) before solving your tacho problem.
vfr cdi:

rvf cdi:

This is an rvf cdi, hope that's better:

They look quite different, simple to tell which one you have.

Re: VFR400 NC30 Thailand
As soon as i can manage to locate a replacement gasket for the crank cover i'll peel it off and see what i have, unless the gasket used is rubber, then i may see if i can get away with resealing it with the old one :)
