I have fit T-Cat pipes to a 3TJ, but they hung down a little low.

Do the R6 downpipes fit any better? I have read that R6 pipes have been mounted to T-Cats in order to gain some ground clearance.

I understand that to make R6 pipes fit, the crossover tubes need to be cut so that the primary header tubes can be spread apart. Thus, the downpipes will bolt to the FZR head. Are there any other issues to address in fitting the R6 pipes to a 3TJ? Has anyone tried the 2nd generation R6 downpipes? I'm thinking of giving them a go.

hello, about two years ago, cut my down pipes of, where they connect to exup valve casing! they were knackered! sent them to Dens Exhausts, they advertise in classic bike mags, £115 later! and stainless down pipes! shaped from original mild steel 3tj pipes!, new S/s headers etc!

When i got them home, got them tig weldeed to the exup value casing! tacked first, then removed from bike, and tig welded, basically the only welding was the 4 downpies to the exup casing, ( its round in shape)

£115 and we never have to look at them again! and they clear up like new, two yrs later!!

hope this helps, no jetting, r6 pipe cutting welding etc!! its another option!! the bends follow the original bends so it fits as it should!

look in any classic bike mag, or if ur stuck, i will try and find the receipt! (tel number) they are based in London, and 100% to deal with!

Could anyone tell me what "cut and shut" means in reference to the R6 pipes?

Cut and shut = You have to cut (the small balancing pipes because the R6 cylinders are wider spaced and then the down pipes because they're too long) and shut or weld them back together.

Racers use them because they're relatively cheap and they're not botherred about looks or junking the exup. Road riders seem to think R6 ... that must be fast but the realive is they're just pipes. I'd go with the option of getting the stainless downpipes made up, you keep the exup which is good for road riding and you don't have to get the carbs set up again.

Thanks Evil. I was aware of the cylinder spacing issue, but wasn't sure about the length. Application is actually for a track bike with flat slides, so this helps. I recently test fitted a set of R6 race pipes and found the collector also pointed down towards the ground, so I get the "cutting and shutting" bit now. T-Cat pipes look like less effort.
