whats the best gunk for removing the adhesive residue?

Any surface prep product (i.e. Prepsol) should do the trick. Acetone will work too, but do a test first to make sure you aren't removing paint with it

If that fails, good old Aussie eucalyptus oil (made in China) won't harm your paint job.

Doesn't rubbing Vaseline into them do it?

BTW don't go down the VFR800 Ani paint job route, the owner of the originals have the pissed ripped mercilessly 'cos they're only part painted part primed

if you paid money to have it done, i'm not in awe of it
if it is a home brew job then hats off.
my 2c is it looks awful and is a mis-match but thats an opinion. if it puts a smile on your face, thats all that matters.

TBH i think i just dont like the shape of the NC24 and no amount of quality paint work could change that

All fair comments, thanks guys :) All the work, from building it up from the box of bits i bought it as, to the paint was all me. On a budget of sod all. I still need to do the valve clearances and overhaul the carbs so when i get time to do that i might repaint the tank in silver. Took it out for a short blast today and its running great, im a slow rider but i still kept up with my mate on his tuned to buggery mito. Not bad for a 22 year old ; )

Mother's Back to Black Trim Restorer also works well.

Looks loads better without the honda on the tank (now for some wings?). I think the paint scheme suits the era of the bike very well. Good job on a budget! As a chronic DIY painter, full respect

I think it will finish the bike better. rather than look like you have just bought a spare tank or spare fairing and popped them on.
