Inline fuel filter would help if this is the problem...
Sorry, but wouldnt blocked jets affect top end? the bike revs out nicely and pulls 13.5k in top no problem.

Will take carbs off over the week-end give them a clean out, sync the carbs and see about fitting a fuel filter.

Would the fuel octane level affect the running of the bike.

Thanks for all the replies.

Have you messed about with the carb slides or needles?

I.e- drilled them or inserted extra washers?

Sounds too rich so why not remove a round of washers from the needles - or check what you have already

Slides have been drilled years ago, as for the needles and washers, i fitted Rick olivers road needle kit and used 0.5mm shims.

depends on which jets. you might also find this useful for general troubleshooting of jetting...

I agree.

It might be just 1 hole in one emulsion tube thats blocked if the cause does turn out to be dirt / fuel contamination.

Bike would feel normal apart from being a bit lumpy.

Just an idea :-)

If all else fails and you can't find the problem you could consider getting it dyno'd, the fuel / air graph will give you an insight to how its running and if your problems are liekly caused by rich / lean :)

thanks for the guide banoffee

and thanks for the advice neo, i will clean the carbs and see how it does.

Im definately wouldnt mind getting it dynoed though, i would like to see how much power she has left after all these years.

Would a air/fuel ratio graph come from just doing a power run? I have not taken a bike to a dyno before. :?

Thanks all

Ask your dyno operator.. they should do a fuel / air graph as part of the run :-)

Mine was running wel (55bhp) but the fuel / air was way too rich.. i've leaned her out quite a bit and done the clutch springs etc and it feel twice as powerful, can't wait to put it through a dyno again
