My first big bike was an nc29, thought it was the bollox. The sound ,the looks and the red faces of alot of people trying to keep up on the mountainous tight n twisty roads around here was all part of the experience. I loved it. I now own an sp1 now and that makes you feel very special (in a non window licking kind of way) but have also bought an nc30 to relive my 400 days! Cant wait for next summer!!

wouldn't take much notice of published weights though... The 30 may be heavier, I don't know but you can look at the swingarm and see that it contains all the hub gubbins and no cush drive. The rear wheel is so much lighter than a doublesided style so swings and roundabouts.

NC30s are special..they are a diamond.

Tough diamonds too. Heard stories of new fireblades getting dropped and a hell of a mess - older Hondas = tougher plastics it seems :D

Many moons ago I did the Cadwell race school when they were running NC30's, for me the bike felt gutless compared to my 29.

My choice would be either an NC23rr or the 30. The 29 isnt quite the bike of the 23. It's not a bad bike and I'd recommend it, but there's very little between any of them. I'd probably take the NC30 in hindsight as there seem to be more 2nd hand spares available.
I found a well set up 30 felt the fastest bike, but in reality a well set up 23 was pretty much identical in the way they go from 0 to flat out. The 30 seemed to turn better but my 23 is more stable.
The 29 is soooo easy to ride but the power just wasnt a smooth as the 23's I have or the 30's I have had or used. Handling, I never really pushed the 29 as it wasn't mine but I did thrash it a bit over 30 miles to make sure there was nothing wrong including getting it airborn twice. Had been a while since riding any 400 anf the grin was back.
Hopefully will be out on my 35 soon

Long time no speak! How are you? How is the injury from last year? Hope all is well with you!


I'm keeping the NC29 and getting the suspension overhauled this winter. Nothing fancy or expensive, but just getting the old shock serviced and resprung etc. It would be good to see how she rides, back at basic refurbished spec. Perhaps do her up next winter properly, if I keep the bike.

I had the nc30 for a few months but I didnt liked it that much. That looong first was a real pain in the arse. One morning, got up and sold it. A week later I bought myself a nc29 and never looked back.

Can do MCT for that money, but the local mechanic who is sorting my bike out uses this chap.

MCT is kinda local to me.. + i am on a tight budget, i may end up just buying a 2nd hand shock off flea bay that will only last a year.
