why not see if there is a member close to you who wouldnt mind checking it out for you ? some good folk on here who i bet would help out for sure.
are you sure the chains not too tight ?
as for not being mechanicaly minded, nothing to be ashamed of. i know my limits and am happy doing certain jobs on the bike, but would rather pass engine work to someone else.
each to our own and all that

theres a chap about 45 miles away from me who has been recommended to me (bob missen Bikes) Apparently very good with V4 engines. probably going to take it to him bite the bullet and pay the money!!. I have had the chain tight , loose and everywhere in between doesnt make any diffrence, the only thing i havent done is give it an oil change(apparently that might make a diffrence!!)But first i need someone good at braising/welding steel tanks as i cant go anywhere until thats done!! im sure i will get it sorted soon!! just loosing a bit of patience with it!!

I think i might be better equipped riding something new without anything to worry about!!

On the subject of my bike. i think the gearbox is shafted i really do. i have to change up tap it back then change up again. then while im riding i can feel that there is no gear again as the lever goes up but nothing happens!! its a total pain in the arse!!
learning how to do maintainance on the bike will no doubt save your pockets quite a bit over the time being. Start out with simple things and work your way up!

Changing the oil might make the gear change a bit better, usually with crap oil i tend to notice that it sometimes takes a bit longer to get it in gear, i've never known oil bad enough to make it not go into gear at all.

I know you seem to be having lots of problems at the moment but thats what can happen when a bikes been neglected for 20 years and changed hands a few times...

Maybe your on the verge of fixing all of the problems, or maybe theres a load more lurking, ready to spring up soon.

My advice to you would be to get the bike looked over by either an experienced forum member or somebody who's very famliiar with these bikes, they'll know exactly what to look for, what to test etc etc and most of all give you an honest opinion.

Then you can decide what to do. If it turns out your 30 is a complete shed and uneconomically viable you can always sell it and get another 30 :)

Taken a few pics of the the tank. Obviously the holes are under the grey putty there is two tiny pin prick hole and one slightly larger but still quite small. They are along the seam of the where it bends.

I would not weld the tank if you wish to keep the paintwork good,
I would use a tankseal on the inside, you could then remove the putty from the outside,
a touch of paint job done.

To be honest ive resigned myself to the fact ive got to do all the paintwork again at some point soon, so the tank will be done again anyway. I may go for the standard RWB scheme or re-do the rc30 scheme. Some opinions on this would be good!!

If you want to do that then look at the inside of the tank  top and bottom because it will only be a matter of time before the next one will appear http://www.therustshop.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; do a great kit from KBS Coatings and its really good and easy as pie to use  and don't be shocked at wat you see :scare:
