I have fried my battery on my race bike ... guess its the rect/reg ... I was going to go no charging & starter anyway but wanted to get a bit more track work done before race day... Can I just disconnect the power at the stator plug & R/R before I remove the hardware or is this too simple ?

You can - but you really want to be taking the flywheel off...
