My daughter is going to be in the same boat. She's got a Derbi GPR50 derestricted (which will soon be up for sale if anyone knows of somebody who's after one) sorry for the plug
She is going to be doing her test soon then the plan is to have a Honda 400 and restrict it. So all this info is good. Will be interested in the washer sizes as well nearer the time

So what is the legal side of doing this yourself. Do you need to get it tested somewhere to prove it is running 33bhp? get a certificate? I take it you would get a cert if you paid for it to be done by a garage. Also if i make the washers and the bhp is not spot on (say 35) what sort of trouble would my daughter get in if the law did get it tested? I did here that in the local area mopeds where being stopped and then i believe taken somewhere and checked.

I dont understand what all the 'Secrecy' is about? Why does he have to PM, why cant you just post up the dimensions??

Besides, Im pretty sure that another member happily posted the dimesnions up in another thread so a search should reveal it without all this 'top secret PM Me!!' codswallop!!

Edit# Quick Search gives the following Results: NC30 33bhp~ Restrictor Washers= Outside Diameter- 36mm, Inside Diameter- 16mm, Thickness-1mm (Approximately)

this may sound stupid to you full power riders but after riding it I am going to restrict it, theres no way I could handle all that power after jumping off a little 50cc lol, btw 50cc is the biggest i've ever ridden

im going thru a similar prob, , im restricting my nc30, i was gunna go my own way and buy the washers fit them myself get a dyno to prove the restriction, how ever the benefits of going the rip off FI international way is that the snogs are not likley to pull you over if you go this route, IE..

you go past a ANPR car and they take your plate, you flag up as owning the 400/600+ bike but your on a restricted llicense, your gunna get pulled...

The FI way your bike is logged thru the dvla and vosa as having a cert of restriction, the bikes in your name the certs in your name, insrance is noted in the mods as being 33bhb, if it all adds up your likley to not get pulled as the papaer work adds up ok, and cops hate paperwork im told unless your riding is aggresive and so on.

you could go the cheap way and do it your self but i think you will get a lot more hassle from the coppers , and once stopped they will be all over your bike like a rash , tyre treads , pipe too loud , plate to small , visor is to dark etc etc
by this time you'll be fed up with the 10th pull in a week and be arrested for public disorder (i would anyway)

ok the point being you need not have any proof really other than YOU know its 33bhp and within the limits of the law , but hassle wise id go FI way, i was tempted to pull out the restriction but a solicitor i know who is a friend and biker, said if you were gunna do that and were to cause a death in a accident you will be lookin at 6 year min prison sentence,as there throwing the book at you for this now he also said that a lot of insurers are droppin the restricted license holders purley for that reason there pulling out the restriction on there bikes and dying, he then went on about there trying to drop the current system of a1 licences and soon you will have to do a test on a 400 then again on a 600 and work your way up,(not sure if this is true tho )
sorry about the rant but its a catch 22 situation here your damned if you do your f**ked if you dont :wanker:

doing it yourself is fine, I did it myself and have never been pulled, I am verty skeptical about the idea you will get pulled because your not on the database and would be suprised if anyone has been pulled because of anpr in such a way, I have my restrictors for sale now if anyone is interested, going to sell them for the same as they were being sold in another thread whcih is £35 including postage if anyones interested;) :P

Deviant - don't see why the ANPR would have any info ref restriction. It is a personal restriction, not a machine restriction if you get me?

You can legally ride a bike with 33bhp.. Nowt to do with your bike that is registered to you.

Get some washers and fit them get it dyno'd to make sure it runs well with them (and they do)

you'd be suprised wot the anpr brings up , it tells the coppers everything , thats the whole point, even how long your knob is and wot you had for tea,
i just think for me the FI rip off international way is best for me, theres been a whole spate of motorcycle deaths in the last few months where i live( 8 that i know of) and the cops are all over the bikers here, they even have a rolling road in the back of a van so they test your bhp there an then  , its happened to a friend of mine and he has lost his licence ,(after, the copper said if he had it restricted official they would of let him go, ANPR pulled him because the R6 was registered to him yet he flaged up as being on restricted licence, if he went thru FI it would of been in the data base and possibly would of had a diffrent outcome)
but i agree you only need fit the kit and dyno it for peace of mind and your within the law so they can suck eggs, the chances are ill get it restricted and never be pulled anyway
