Carb overhaul and jet kit / airbox advice needed - part 2 :)
Howdy guys
You may recall my post recently about my super mega fast 109mph RVF400
well clearly it has issues, theres a massive hole in the midrange and when it gets to 12k in top it just stops there, clearly theres a problem with the fueling so it was time to whip the carbs off (hardest job EVER) and investigate.
I have taken lots of pics for everyone to see me bikes innards
as they say a pic says a thousand words so am hoping you guys can advise me what to do from here, without further ado, heres me pics
IS IT RESTRICTED ?
Nope, not from the looks of these pics, so as with all bike problems its a process of elimination and now we have confirmation there is no restriction here or in the clock.

WHATS THIS RUBBER MAT I HEAR ABOUT ?
Clearly my bike is missing this rubber mat which I read my bike needs ? anyone have a pic of what this mat looks like?

DOES MY AIRBOX LOOK OK ?
You can clearly see evidence of the snorkle being chopped and according to the manual there should be some foam in there, previous owner must have ripped this out in the hope of more air means more speed, can this airbox be salvaged ? could this explain the slow speed ?

HAS MY AIR FILTER BEEN MODIFIED ?
There seams to be some kinda K&N air filter in there, I am not sure if this comes as one unit or the original filter cut out and the K&N panel siliconed in there ? looks dodgy to me this whole set up.

OTHER PICS TO SHOW CONDITION
So what do we know ? firstly the carbs are ditched, really full of crap in there.
I have checked the main jets, I think the 2 front 2 are 115 and the back rear 2 are 118, again I am not sure if thats right or not ?
Looking into the carbs I can definately see that the emulsion tubes ARE ovalled by quite a lot so they defo want changing.

ADVICE PLEASE :)
Right .. new bike to me this so am still learning the lingo and what there all about.
Like most people I want the bike to be the best it can be and the fastest it can be, I read a great post on here earlier about carbon airboxes and things.
One thing I do not want to do is keep whippin the carbs off or get it working so so to then have to buy performance bolt ons later on so I'd rather go first class while its in bits and do this right first time :) so whats the dream set up for these bad boys ? should I get the TYGA airbox ? to run a filter or no filter ? then what about main jets, I'd even get the HRC ECU if I felt it would give me a better bike with this kinda set up.
The only mods I can see on the bike are the full tyga exhaust system and whatever the previous owner did to get this K&N in and the main jets I think are diff from standard.
Some direction on the best set up from here would be great please guys, carb kit, filter, airbox etc, my performance issues are in your hands :D
Thanks a bunch.
Matt

That aint a dodgy filter, that is a K+N one, just like the one I have. (see pic below)CMSMJ1 wrote:dodgy filter and dodgy jet sizes for me mate...

Get the carbs all scrubbed up and cleaned, set everything back to stock, 110's all round, no extra needle shims (1X0.5mm is standard) 1 5/8th's turns out from fully in on the a/f screw too. Are all the velocity stacks the same size or are there 2 long and 2 short?
Here's my K+N, (ignore what has been done to the lid)

Cheers guys
Yep I have 2 long and 2 short velocity stacks :

Does that change anything ?
Makes ya wonder why previous owner put 115 and 118 jets in there
So I just need 4 x 110 main jets, HRC springs, new needles, emulsion tubes and to double check the a/f screws and put it back together ? oh any idea on which needles to use ?
This is what was in my needle slider :

Cheers

Those needles look standard. If you look where you took the washer from you'll see the needle code stamped there.
Just following this thread and not trying to jump into it too much i'm sure my carbs have #108's in there?
And don't ditch those carbs theres nothing wrong with them, just get a couple of cans of carb cleaner and use a stiff paintbrush to scrub away all the grime :-)

If you didn't theres a chance you'd be running NC30 carbs, which have 4 equal sized rubber stacks rather than metal ones that point vertical :)400_Rider wrote:Cheers guys![]()

Checked needles Neo and there stamped J8VA, not sure what that prefix means though or if I need new ones of them again ?
Yes Druid that mat, I found this image and think this is what I am missing :

But saying that mine doesnt have the holders to hold that rubber flap on that horizontal cross bar so not sure how it would attach on the 35 ?

Nope, that's because that's not a 35, the 30 is (slightly) different.400_Rider wrote:Yes Druid that mat, I found this image and think this is what I am missing :
