NC30 under tank insulation

Mine's a bit tatty so have left it off. Is this a common thing to do? Is it just for sound insulation? If so, definitely leaving it off as think you can hear a tad more induction growl

No, it is for heat insulation, you will find your tank, although it has the same capacity, will hold less warm fuel, due to its expansion.

It is likely that when you come to fill up, you will find the tank full to the brim. :-)

so if i read that right i can ride round and not use any fuel... me thinks me tank will be off and the insulation will be removed before i finish writing this....

Yes,
Your strategy is correct, the faster you ride, the hotter the tank will become and the more fuel you will have aboard, a sort of perpetual motion.
I have not tried it yet, but Eccles said Bluebottle got it to work, although Moriati remains sceptical.
