Replacement K&N style screw on oil filter - EN2 same as 3TJ?

Post by uniquefzrfreak »

I was hoping to fit one of those replacement (and less fugly) K&N screw on oil filters. The ones that include the housing cylinder and replace the big metal finned job that comes on the engine as standard.

K&N only show one for the RR model, which I understand is the 3TJ.

Does anyone know if this would also fit the EN2? - it's K&N part number KN-303.

Or another brand that would do the same job, unless I"m just limited to changing the actual filter cone within the standard housing.

The 3TJ filter is completely different, it's a complete unit and looks like a car one.
As you bike is now naked I'd say the original will look a lot better than the TJ one.

There are replacement filter housings which come with a washable mesh filter http://www.kandpengineering.com/#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.motorcycle.com/products/kp-e ... 71983.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I think it will look naff next to the rest of the engine and coming from USA it will be expensive too.

Wise words evil, I do like those KP ones though - but the application list doesn't show one for the FZR400 either. I guess I could e-mail them and find out - but you are probably right about the price.

Is there any reason that the standard one couldn't be powder coated? so it looks less beat up and stands up better than simply painting it.

You could ask .... try quoting a FZR600 3HE engine.

Yes it can be powder coated. If it's beat up then maybe fill any chips before hand. It would be better to use the same finish as the rest of the engine.

I came to the conclusion that I couldn't stretch to the price of the KP jobbies, so my standard one is in the parts washer now in readiness for a scrub down and refresh.

As it's an alloy piece clean it up and paint it then sand down and polish the top of the fins.
