Need some advice on problem.

Post by White2505 »

My regulator blew the other day taking the battery with it.

Have now replaced both but when I turn the ignition on I dont get the usual weep weep of the exup motor. additionally the headlights and horn don't work either.
I've checked the fuses and they're all good.

The bike will actually start butwill only rev to a max of 4000 and sounds a bit rough to boot.

I think the ignitor box has gone as it looks like this is exclusively powered by the ignitor box.

Can anyone with a bit more knowledge confirm my thoughts?

cheers

It's unknow that when the reg/rec blows it takes more electronic parts down with it. Check if the exup motor wil do the weep weep if you connect it to 12V and check if the bulbs aren't blown.

Have you tested the charging current across the battery terminals it should be about 13-14.5v
If it's not then replace the reg rec.
Recharge the battery and see if holds the charge if not you'll need a new one
Then chec it's all charged and charging properly.

Check the bulbs and the fuses again ... I think there's another fuse on the Solenoid.

it could be the exup motor has gone, revving to 4k is a fault code as i found out when starting my bike with no exup connected so i'd def go for that being your problem first! might just be a short somewhere, but if you can get hold of another to try it just plugged in it will show you if it is that.

the chances are the regulator giving up the ghost has taken other components with it.its possible its fooked the cdi unit.as it would have allowed more than 12volts throughout the whole system.just check everything and if you can try another cdi and see what happens.

cheers chaps.

The reg and battery have both been replaced. I'm getting the expected 14.2v when running.

I think it's the cdi but I don't have a spare which is why I was trying to narrow down the most likely culprit before
venturing on to scam bay for a replacement.

The main 30 amp fuse is good as are the four in the fuse block. I was not aware there was another. I checked the solenoid and it's working, does anybody know anything about this other fuse?

there should only be the main fuse and the ones in the box.

check and see what kind of spark you are getting at the plugs.........

okay made some forward steps today.

bl**dy regulator took out both front headlamp bulbs  both rear lamp bulbs and the instrument cluster bulbs.

I stuck 12v onto the exup motor and that moves fine both ways. This is exclusively powered and controlled by the cdi. As the motor no longer makes the weep weep noise when I turn the ignition on I take it the cdi is fried. :Soap:

so if I total up all the costs of the regulator going I think I'm going to be into the best part of £200

yay :D Alex's cdi that I bought has got the old girl back up and running again.

So new regulator, new battery and replacement cdi, just need a pair of headlamp bulbs now and I'm roadworthy again.

cheers for the advice peeps
