Re: GK76A O-Rings
Quick update.
Received the CDI from the mech in the post just over 2 weeks ago. Me old man, who is very good with electronics, took one look at it and siad it was fucked.
So, with no further delay, jumped on fleebay to buy a new one. Found an after market one with "unlimited horsepower"....bollocks to all that, I just wanted one that works, so we paid for it.
2 weeks on, and we hadn't received it, let alone heard anything from the seller. So me Dad, with the ebay account, emailed the seller, who only posted it when we queried it.
fucking idiot, how difficult is it!.......anywho lol it's on it's way now and when it arrives I have to get it over to the mech so he can sort the compression issue. I believe he said it was with carb number 1......or it could be number 4.

Good to hear you're persevering. I'm having one of those days with my Gixxer today
Any chance you could point me in the direction of that CDI? My bike let me down again this morning. Nobody should ever be late for work on a Sunday morning, bad enough getting up at 6am!

Re: GK76A O-Rings
Thanks Chalky, looks like just the thing I need, even if it is a bit expensive.
If you've received yours, can you confirm that it works as it should? I'm also wondering what kind of connector it uses, as i've seen pics of two different types on the GK76 (mine's aGK76a, don't know if that's important).
EDIT: Also, I'm wondering if the CDI can be opened up like the one i've seen in another thread. In that case, the CDI used a PIC microcontroller which I have experience with. It may well be possible for me to read the code from the PIC, and manufacture some more CDI's, a clone of a clone so to speak. That would certainly help ease the burden on my wallet as I could probably knock them out for half the price of that seller, assuming the connectors are available.

Re: GK76A O-Rings
Not a problem mate. Unfortunately it is, but I guess that the price we pay for having such an "exclusive" bike. (I prefer to look at it that way, stop me getting so angry when waiting for parts to arrive lol).
I haven't received it yet, have been tracking it online thoug and it's just been released from Customs :D.
I'm not sure if the new can be opened, will have a look when I get it. I'd ask Ripzay about all that, he seems to be quite good with electronics....otherwise I'm just lost lol.

Re: GK76A O-Rings
Hi Guys
With regards to reading the code off the pic on my first CDI (very simple unit, pictured in another thread) they arent readable, and are code protected, so not possible to clone unless you can reverse engineer the I/O and re-code it yourself.
the CDI design was pants anyway compared to the chinese copies, which appear to be pretty damn close to the OEM units in terms of design.. with maybe cheaper capacitors and transistors used... if i were you i would attempt to make clones of these units, but as they are complex in design it would be more difficult to accomplish.
On a side note, i rebuilt my carb bottoms this weekend as the bike still wasnt running properly...
none of the carbs had the right mixture setting, it varied from 1 turn to 3.5 turns across the four carbs.
of the 8 o-rings i replaced, 6 of the originals were cracked / split, and 4 of them were completely the wrong size.
You'll be pleased to know my bike now runs and idles like a dream with no bogging down.
accelerates faster than my friends Triumph TT 600 and tops out at 120mph but i do need a new chain and sprocket and a proper air filter so that might give me a little more.. "chuffed" is the word i would use :D
Thanks for all the help you guys have given!
Ben

Re: GK76A O-Rings
That's a bit of good news for you at least Ripzay, I guess it gives us all hope!
Interesting that the PIC is unreadable. I know it can be prevented from being written to, but i've not heard of any way to protect the code before. Though having said that, I mainly hang out in open source DIY forums, so that's not really an issue
In terms of cloning the chinese CDI's, i'm guessing they probably use masked ROM's like the original, so that's not going to be an easy job!
Slightly off topic, but you mention that you out accelerate a TT-600. Well I went out with my mate on his '03 Gixxer600, and he couldn't pull away from me either, though I was working the gearbox harder.
EDIT: Too hasty on the post button there. I'm planning on opening up my CDI tonight, as I did a lot of reading on the Bandit400 about CDI problems that seem to match my symptoms. I'll let you know how I get on.
