Well I'm at work also, but not actually doing any work, barely anyone here and when your 'support' and no one is in it makes work a bit dull.CMSMJ1 wrote:

Re: CMSMJ1 - race bike build thread

OK - this is the bike in it's least stripped state. Not a bad old beasty as my buddy Grandad was slightly OCD for polishing things...
It need stripping to get the cylinder head off and the cams, valves and gubbins out

This is the new head - lsightly dremelled to remove some of the casting flash inside the ports - I did a poor job on it and will revisit it if the engine actually runs...which I am quite paranoid about..lol
The new head had the valves ground in using a lovely halfords kit for £3.99 - bargain. Was helped by lots of tea and a patient wife as I did it in the kitchen..
We have all seen Vipers superb thread on valve clearances so I will avoid that. What I can show oyu is the removal of the quietening gears from the camshafts..

Rear head - gears still installed

front head - gears removed.
A simple circlip removal and a decent chunk of metal off your camshafts - will take pic of the removed gubbins later
It looks like this now... just waiting on a shim from Rick and a new exhaust from Rod @ Hiperform. I cannot decide whether to uber pimp no9 with a nice new Hiperform system or to keep the stack on it... hmmm

Great stuff :D
My bike looks just like the first pic atm, really should get my arse in gear and finish the valve clearances, maybe i'll do it on my day off tomorrow.

However, I have a lifetime supply of airboxes and carbs with a spare tank, seat and frame, swingers, subframes, shocks etc too...

This is my trackday/racing tank - stomp grip for the win

Also got some later forks to fit but need another one of these adjusters please...

Tools of the trade too.... "working" from home whilst checking valve clearances...lol

Sweet project amigo!
Stompgrip rocks.
You'll love the sound of the quietening gears removed... music to my ears!!

Re: CMSMJ1 - race bike build thread
you should take all the quietening gears out, the ones off the gears that sit on the crank. makes it sound better with all of them removed
