Not a stupid question - generally the reflective side should be facing the heat source as it then acts as a barrier between the heat source and the adhesive on the back of the tape.
The main reason that I wrapped it on the inside is because the smooth gelcoat is on the inside of the air tray, whereas the outside of the airtray is very rough and the tape will struggle to adhere to it.
From my research there shouldn't be any negative effect from wrapping it this way.
