Nothing more to say really, if it's been organised it'll be here.

Anglesey CBT - 8th Sept

Post by CRM » Fri Aug 04, 2017 7:37 am

Anyone else up for this ?
I appreciate its a long way for many, and its only 1 day on track - however this is the coastal circuit not the longer international layout - so we get the fabulous corkscrew section which on a smaller bike is just bloody epic fun.

Don't forget make a weekend of it and enjoy the racing for the weekend with free entry to the circuit or go have a nosey around Anglesey - its a stunning place.

No idea. I didn't book it. Either superbike or the one under that. We were in superbike at cadwell but not sure what HardHat Harry booked us in this time

Well, suspension out tonight and getting resprung and serviced for the Anglesey trackday. Will get the new alloy radiator fitted too, as the stock one had a nice little introduction to the front tyre at cadwell Image

Guys,

I've sent the info packs out via email now so hope you've received them ok - if not please email me at info@classicbiketrackdays.com and I'll resend it.

We still have places available in each group - which are a bit different from our usual as we're ahead of the CRMC race weekend. We thought they might be, but the bookings dictated how we chopped the day up, so they will be; Novice, Intermediate, Race 1 and Race 2

For anyone who's near by (is anyone near Anglesey?!)and want to wait until the day, you'll be able to book on the morning if you want.

Look forward to seeing you there . . . I really can't wait to do the drive from the Isle of Wight!! :|

Hmmm
well my CR shat itself a couple of weeks ago at Pembrey at the end of the straight on lap 3 session 1 (including 2 sighting laps) so my weekend was cut very short.
The fresh Pro-X piston had cold seized (was too tight) and while the barrel cleaned up nice - the piston was scrap.

I have since put another piston in and commuted on it to get another hour of running in on the piston - in an effort to get more wear and reduce the risk of another seizure.

I will be bringing a spare bike too in the form of a 1999 CBR600 i think

Weather looks mixed - however this is anglesey, and it can often be totally different to weather reports so don't worry too much. Besides if it starts wet, it can dry up very quickly and still offer loads of grip.
looking forward to it already.

I've seen the garage plan, and there are units without names on. Are we able to use those with no names on them ?

Well that was a fantastic day. I could go as far to say one of the best days i have ever had at Anglesey.
first of all the weather - ok now anyone looking at the BBC or phone could be forgiven for thinking it would be a wash out and horrible, the truth is they were wrong.
The rain on Thursday night and Friday morning was biblical and bouncing off the roads, yet Friday morning over cast but clearing.
Meeting up with Mike in the morning we were soon ready, setup and looking forward to riding.
The paddock was very very busy, lots claiming spaces for the racing weekend, so friday only guests were fighting for premium space between the huge race outfits.

Session 1 was damp, some dry lines, some sections of the track totally dry, others mostly damp, none of which required more than road tyres - wets were redundant.
Sadly for me in session 1 the CR250 decided to pop the throttle cable off the carb in turn 1 while was just getting going - this resulted in me chucking it to the side of the track and jumping over the tyres ready for the push of shame back to the pits after politely declining a lift from the meat wagon / trailer of shame.
Session 2 was perfectly dry and warming, session 6 saw a huge big black cloud coming over just as we were off out. a few specs of rain not even enough to wet the visor and session 7 was perfectly dry but it was getting cool out there.
So there we have it - i managed all 7 sessions and the CR apart from its initial hickup performed just fine with the Pro-X piston.

Mikes bike had a little rest at the top of rocket on session 6, when he discovered he forgot to turn the fuel on, he was back out there half a lap later.
We had some great fun riding together before he would clear off into the distance.

I will say, the standard format of Novice, Inters, Race 1, Race 2 and everyone gets 15 min sessions for me was just perfect. Out on the hour at the same time made it easy to work out, more importantly i felt the level of riding in each group was better than clumping varying levels of skills and experience but all the same bikes / CC / Type
There were clearly some very quick racers in Inters and they dived up the inside a couple of times (riding a inappropriate moto x bike i am used to people socking it to me and showing me who is boss sometimes after being over taken by a dirt bike) but this was no problem as the guys were clearly really quick and cleared off without holding you or anyone up with dodgy moves or risky passes, not once this time did i feel tucked up or at risk by anyone making lunges or fast passes.
This was by far the safest, once of the fastest and most enjoyable track days i have ever done.
Mike it was a pleasure sharing the day with you again, any chance of posting some of those cookies and flat breads over ?

I saw you pushing back in and hoped it was nowt serious. Glad it was sorted and you got out to enjoy the fantastic day. Have to agree with your comments above. One of the best days ever. I've struggled on track, since retiring from racing in 2013. I also struggled with sportsbike riding position after riding cb500, er6n, 350lc for so long. Feels obscure after racing a naked bike to be hunched over the front of the bike.
Suspension sorted after cadwell as it was so so soft.

A jolly good day out
