What EvilChicken says is correct. It would be the bikes that are being flogged, track and race bikes. If you have your engine apart for a rebuild then definitely a good idea.enduro250 wrote:Hi again,
How important is this change?
I have 3 pieces of 3 TJ engines in use, and no of them has this change.

By the way, you will need a long 6mm drill to do this. I just tried my normal 6mm jobber drill and it is too short.

Ideally you should be using a pillar drill and check the drill bit is straight - look at the end of the bit when the drill is spinning - probably better to use a 5.5mm then 6mm. Wash all the loose metal out

Re: FZR400RR Oil Gallery Mod to Save Big-End
Hi again,
another question, one of my engine is already fragmented for service. there I wil do the needed change in the oil gallery.
for the other 2 engines there is no reason to open them, except this f... oil gallery issue.
is it possible to turn around the engine and open the lower part separately?
or do I have to dismantle the complete engine ?
any experiences?

There are 2 bolts that can only be accessed by taking the barrels off. Some race engines are built up without them for this reason but you'll only know by trying to take it apart.
If you're going to split the cases you might as well decoke the head, regrind the valves and renew the camchain, it just takes a bit longer.

Is this for 3tj engines or also for 1wg engines that wants to be raced?

Decided I wasn't happy with using the original main bearing restrictors. If they work loose they can just fall into the lower gallery and that would be the the end of the engine. My solution was to turn down a couple of ultra low head cap screws.
Left to right, OEM restrictor, ULH cap screw, drilled & narrowed.
and here it is fitted. That will work for me.
