What shock is this? And do I keep or sell?
Hi,
Looking to sell one of my nc30's here in nz and the one I have chosen has a couple of good bits - trying to decide whether to take the effort to switch them with my last project - a barn find that has been put back on the road after 14 years sitting (1991 nc30 stock everything). The bike im selling has the older style forks with race tech cartridge emulators, and a rear shock I was told is off an rs250 but set up by a suspension guy here - spring says ohlins on it - should I make the effort to switch it with my stock rear shock on the keeper? The stock shock feels firmer? Is anyone able to confirm what shock this is from my horrible photos?

Secondly the seller bike has a Yamamoto half system on it - keeper has stock system. Should I switch? I suspect the original system on the keeper has never been touched...

It really depends on what you want.
If It were me i'd keep the stock bike as it is, especially if you stock suspension feels firmer, as you may already know, not all shock mods done to the nc30 make it better.
There are some good aftermarket shocks you can pick up which are proven for the 30 which will probably be better than that unknown shock espeically if it feels soft.
Same with the systems, the 30 will run better on stock jetting (115/118) with a yamamoto system over stock (ive tried both on my own bike) but depends what sound you like.

Re: What shock is this? And do I keep or sell?
Thanks, I've heard the rs250 shock is a common mod, I do feel like it makes it better to corner and is raised slightly, but I'm probably not a good enough rider to know more than that. Does this look like an rs250 shock?
Sorry, are you saying then I should keep the exhaust? That's what I was thinking...I like the sound of the Yamamoto system to be honest - any aftermarket system makes the nc30 sound good :-)

I use an RS250 shock (and have done for nigh on 7 years) and it has been superb. It is slightly longer than stock which raises the rear which is a nice bonus and that made my bike feel loads better. What more do you need other than a better feeling bike?
That one looks like an RS shock - but with a large spacer on top of the spring?
Yamamoto systems are nice, but they are not for keeping - sell that and get some money off it.

Re the exhaust - do you think I should sell it separately? The problem is we don't have many options down here! Hence dithering between stock and the Yamamoto system...the other option is getting something off someone here, likely to be around 500-800 pounds all up, for what I would think isn't much gain?

My experience of Yamamoto is that they are not the most long lasting system and so it will eventually crack and you'll need another anyways....
So, flog that, get some money put to and buy a lovely Ethos or TSR (ibby had one?)
