VFR 750 rear wheel needed and measurements for machining
Does anyone have a rear vfr750 wheel for sale?
Also does anyone know the measurements for machining the hub?
Thanks
Chris

Nothing for sale but wondering why you need the VFR wheel?Blanch2986 wrote:Does anyone have a rear vfr750 wheel for sale?

The late model VFR750 5-spoke wheel is the only readily available (possibly the only, full stop) single sided rear wheel with a rim size of 5.00 x 17, i.e. the correct rim size to mount the 160/60-17 rear tyre which is the optimum size (IMO) for the NC30 chassis.

What year bike is that rim off just out of interest?

VFR 750 rear wheel needed and measurements for machining

I have a '4th Generation' Wheel waiting to go on my NC30, just need to finish modifying the Hub.
I'm going to keep the single nut fixing method from the NC, I don't like the four-stud arrangement.
I can measure up for you later, but basically to need to machine off a bit from the length of the hub stub tube to match the 750 wheel inner dimensions.

Re: VFR 750 rear wheel needed and measurements for machining
Thanks for the replies. I've got chance of a vfr750 wheel but it's 4th gen, will this fit? I work at a engineering college and have a engineering workshop, I wondered if anyone had any tech specs to machine to? Or might have to take Rick up on his offer of exchange hub. I like the idea of keeping the centre nut rather than the 4 stud option with hole in the centre.
Thanks

The 4th Gen is the one to have, as it's a 5" wide rim.
The others are 5.5", and won't clear the Swing-arm (with the correct tyre on).
Even with the 4th gen rim, you have to space the chain over a tad, all explained here;~
http://www.vsource.org/VFR-RVF_files/NC ... rwheel.htm
I reckon you could space the wheel over by 1/16 (1.5mm) instead, I doubt you'd notice.
The basic mod to the Hub is to machine the mounting Stub down to 40mm length from the Flange, and sleeve the end out to 50mm to match the internal diameter of the Wheel (49.85mm or so for a nice sliding fit, machine to suit your particular wheel, manufacturing tolerances being what they are . . . ).
If you want to keep the single nut arrangement, you'll need to machine up four Dowels to mount on to the Flange (bolt or weld), to locate in the original Wheel Stud bores.
You'll also need to machine a shaped Spacer to fill the conical recess in the Wheel, were the Nut sits.

Re: VFR 750 rear wheel needed and measurements for machining
The 4th gen wheel does, as you say, require the axle diameter nearest the drive flange to be 49.9mm but the NC30 axle is larger than that so it`s a `machine down`, not a `sleeve up`. If you reduce the overall length of the axle nose measured from the drive flange to 30mm then it will fit either G3 or G4 VFR750F wheels.
You will have to remove the NC30 drive pins (PCD 85mm), plug the holes and redrill them at a PCD of 100mm then fit custom made 12mm diameter pins to engage the stud holes in the VFR wheel.
I`ve not done the conversion this way, but there may be an issue with the NC30 wheel retaining bolt not being long enough...

Re: VFR 750 rear wheel needed and measurements for machining
Once you machine down the length of the stub tube to match the internal depth of the 750 wheel (40mm), then you're onto the waisted section of the stub, which is just over 46mm, so it doesn't match the bore of the wheel, hence the sleeving at the end . . .RickOliver wrote: . . . the NC30 axle is larger than that so it`s a `machine down`, not a `sleeve up`. . .

Bolt end protrudes by approx 19mm . . .. . . there may be an issue with the NC30 wheel retaining bolt not being long enough . . .
