3tj Revs limited to 12,500.
Hi guys & gals.
I have a 3tj that I am track day riding. I recently fitted a digital speedo/tacho/etc. unit (eBay from China) to replace the standard clock set for no other reason than I wanted the bike to be different. I am now restricted to 12,500 in all gears. Historical threads tell me that this is due to disconnecting the speedo which sends a signal to the ignitor box. Can I remove the sender unit part from the speedo and reconnect it into the wiring loom? If not, where can I purchase an M Max box from? I would appreciate any help and advice; next track day is Suzuki All stars on August 5th and the extra revs would be handy!
Many thanks,
Aceman.

M-max box virtually unobtainable.
Check back on threads in both general and workshop. There is a bit info on chopping the sender tag about that is in the original speedo.
Not a lot of use if the speedo is removed though.
You need a derestricted TCI or a 4DX one.
I saw someone on Farcebook
( I know, I know; I only go on to laugh at them when I'm bored) selling one a few weeks ago on a fzr forum =£40.
Addition; There is in the archives somewhere ; a bit about just removing the circuitboard from the old speedo and plugging that into the loom.
Bendy;, of this forum might derestrict a TCI for you. !

Many thanks willandrip for the info. Will search through general etc.for speedo thread. Should have left it alone and not tried to tidy up the electrical loom!

Re: 3tj Revs limited to 12,500.
Just found speedo threads in general. Oops! I had a speedo head fitment box fitted all along, which I've now removed. Will teach me to find out what things are first before disconnecting. At least I've got somewhere to start from to restore it to its unrestricted state. Wondered why he had put no rev limiter sticker on blanked off speedo! Does it still need the speedo to be driven from the front wheel as I've also fitted a bush kit to replace the drive unit?

The Cdi needs a 0 signal from the speedo head, or it restricts in all gears, it then needs a signal to read more than 0 or it thinks its on the stand and still restricts.
Talk to Bendy and get the cdi derestricted then sell the box to help with the cost

Re: 3tj Revs limited to 12,500.
Are you saying you have a M-max box fitted at the speedo loom ?
If so; you do not require a speedo cable.
I have not seen the back of a 3TJ speedo to see how it plugs in.
I did a bit research though and found that the 3TJ loom at the TCI box should accept the speedo head type box.
You need to describe or better put up a pic. to confirm fitment.

I have the box in the first picture with the cables from both sides. I will look at the TCI unit tomorrow as I have to unbolt the seat and seat fairing. I cannot thank you enough for your help and advice with my self-induced problems.

I am pretty sure if you plug that box in series at the TCI it will work.
Do update this thread though, as the forum still has no definitive answer on this theory.( I have no access to a 3TJ)

Re: 3tj Revs limited to 12,500.
Plugged the M Max box directly into the loom under the seat, even plugged the speedo internal circuit board in as well, but it made no difference. I still had the restriction kick in at 12,500, so I have sent the tci box to Bendy for him to work his magic. Still got past quite a few bigger engined bikes though due to later braking and faster cornering speeds.

My corner speed is low too :)
