Aye Dave, had it been a problem from storage ; its easier to point to the carbs.
From what you have just said and what was posted on the other site re plug caps breaking down; seems like multiple
problems have been developing.
I watched and listened to a few of your previous videos you had posted on U tube.
I think the "putt putt putt" noise is just the cylinder missing on the most recent one.
The one of the bike upright with the fuel level tubes from some time ago ; that just seemed like it was slowly running out of fuel. Did raising the fuel level a few mm sort it out ? or altering the mixture screws ?

ITS ALIVE !!!!!!

well all pipes are hot but the head gasket did leak a small puddle of water when i first filled it even after i was so careful when torquing it up in 3 stages and quarter turn at a time etc etc . after it was run and got hot the gasket sealed its self not sure if thats normal but hey ho . just need to let it get cold now to see if the puddle returns and if it starts and runs ok .

not sure what has sorted the number 2 problem except for the valves being lapped and cleaned up etc :?:

That's good news Dave.
How were the carbs stored during the wait for the gaskets ?
Do you think you have altered an electrical component with the engine removal/refit ?

Seems very strange for a strip/inspect of the top end to cure this if compression and clearances were all good prior !

i also managed to take the cdi apart and inspect for dry joint there was one which was maybe dry but not convinced tbh. anyway i re soldered it just in case so it must have been that ????

Not convinced on the TCI.
You stated you swapped coil leads over.
If there was a fault there it would effect two cylinders.

I have had no experience of initial coolant leakage.... sure you did not spill some ?
