Interesting project.

What are you doing with the front forks in regards to spring setup, just leaving it as it came or getting them resprung to suit the bike.

Like you mentioned the NC30 is heavier than the ZX, combined with your weight too.

I forget the details but I seem to recall the ZXR / ZX636 front end being softer than a stock ZXR400 (from people who have done / attempted this on a ZXR400)

If your going to be spending money in the hundreds of pounds region I think it will make sense to get the forks set up properly. Perhaps it will need new springs..

No doubt anything newer will feel much better than 20 year old abused NC stuff but will it be performing to its best?

Only other thing is how is the fork height with the NC? I think they are longer than ZXR forks right, so does this change the angle of the bike? Perhaps rear needs to be adjusted to compensate?

You can fit a 160 on a 4.5" if you want to.. depending on tyre mfg it isnt always certified.. some believe the shape is distorted a little. It's a very personal experience.

Shame the RVF 17" is commanding so much money as its a bolt on 4.5" wheel that wont give you any hassle.

Many of the old Suzuki's like the bandits, GS xxx used to run 160/60/17 on a 4.5" rim if I recall.

Changing the rear to a 17" though and you ideally will need to fix the bikes height by fitting an RVF shock linkage.

I know there is a very good local suspension specialist that is very local to me who will be able to sort the spring rates out for me (reactive suspension)

The standard zx636r b1h spring rate is .850 not sure on the nc30 rate

I think the zx6 is around 10kg lighter than the nc30, so not a million miles out, the fork length ill know more later today as I'm dropping the standard forks out and will so what the length is compared to the zx6r forks. I'm not bothered about having to drop the forks thru the Yokes a little and I'm very interested in the weight saving the new front end will have compared to the nc30 front end, I'm sure it'll be a sizeable saving in both Unsprung and sprung mass.

With regards the rear, ill be getting a ride height adjustable shock so will again leave it with reactive suspension when I get these parts together!

Interesting.. be good to see your build when its finished! No doubt it will look the part, be interesting to see how much it takes to get it to handle really well too.

Standard springs in the ZX636R forks are 0.9kg/mm - dead right for my RC30 Hybrid which uses those forks but a little bit strong for an NC30 unless you weigh 200lbs or are going racing...

Front end is in now, clip one are fitted, standard B1H clipons.

I had some problems with the left to right clearance she yu turn the handle bars and had to make some bump stops hat screwed in to the 8mm breaded holes that the lower part of the fairing H stay fit in, this again has completely sorted this issue... Thank god lol

It's kind ground to a halt a little as I'm saving up for an oil processing course, but I've very little to do to make it road worthy again;
Front B1H wheel needs powder coating and a fresh tyres, and I need to fit the RVF rear linkage which I've already got to jack the backa end up.
I need an ignition and key for a zxr400 so this will screw in to the ZXR400 yokes I've used and look factory as opposed to bodging the nc30 one to fit, I'm sure these will need rewiring to work properly.

I dropped the forks through the holes so they are the same length axle to bottom home as the standard forks.
I have standard plain white bodywork and a castrol rep sticker kit to fit to it once done!

Once I've made some more progress ill update the build thread I started, what I will say is the B1H front end swap was MUCH easier than I imagined and once tweaked set up wise at a suspension specialist should blow the standard front end out of the water in every area..... Especially braking lol

Sounds like an ace conversion to do, not really much negative about it, bar b1h forks still being pretty expensive for a decent set. Keep it up, would love to see the end result!
