you're just tempting me ;)

anyway, there's a good news. today I walked past a fazer 600 and, guess what? the fork pitch is 190 8-)
unfortunately I didn't have anything accurate enough to measure the spindle. are you reasonably sure the spindle size is 17mm?

on another forum I found the lenght of the fork is 755mm, which is the same as mine.
so I have same stanchions diameter (41mm), same pitch (190mm) and same lenght (about 760mm)
I'm almost sure the rim is the same because so is the tyre (110/70) so I only need to know about the splindle.
please, tell me it's 17mm

I found a fork for less than £140 + a couple of calipers for about £90 ;)

ok, I've just found out it's 17mm ;)

now the last questions: what else might be different? can you think to anything else that might go wrong in the swap?
if I had to be pessimistic I'd say: rotor discs and speedo driver. I'm reasonably certain discs are the same. the diameter is the same for sure...

speedo driver: do you think it might change? my guess is the entire front end is exactly the same, so also the speedo driver

The speedo drive will be the same as yours - the tyres are the same so the speedo will read the same.
The brake discs are the same too.

Off you go then :)
Remember the pics ;)

The caliper mounts are 100mm on the Fazer so you'll need some new calipers. All Yam (road) speedo drives are the same size (31.5mm wide), it's just the spindle size and internal gearing that's different. Your XJR speedo drive will work with the Fazer 600 forks.

And, just to add, at 5 pages (or is it 6 now?!) long we should have an XJR400 section.

eheh, I sneaked into the forum with only some hopes, and you're being great help!
bighug

yes, I do need calipers, but that's not a biggie, I can find a pair in good condition for under £100
the problem now...is to find the fork :(

I found these three:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/39492-Yamaha- ... 41712b7c5b

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOOK-YAMAHA-F ... c#viTabs_0

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-FZS600 ... 2a28afcfe6

only the first one has the preload adjustment, but it's written it needs seals
that's not a big problem per se, but makes me doubtful about the general condition of the chrome.
I mean, I will save money IF the fork are ok, because there is absolutely no point in buying them if in 3 months time I will have to re-chrome :?

here I am with some news ;)

I didn't take the FZS600 fork. sorry guys but I didn't want to risk to end up with a piece of trash :|
what I did was to go to get the fork stripped down to actually see if what I was told last year was true.
it wasn't...
the stanchions DIDN't need rechroming (for some reason I was told the part of the stanchion that's inside the leg was rotten), only a couple of new seals and, give the fork was apart, new bushes
I also asked for a couple of gaiters for additional protection.
I saved over £150

Cool
Take the calipers off and regrease the sliding pins - its a job that should be done
