Original paint colours. Supplier

I have found a site which supply the original colours for practically every make of bike.
I think i might be using this site soon. i know how much trouble people have trying to find the right colours without success so thought i would share it :D
Just put your make etc in and will come up with the colour scheme's for that year

Not all colours are available.

A lot of paints are not made any more due to the switch from oil based to water based paint. So the info they have means they cant mix it anymore, if they dont have the doc they cant weigh the different paint items together. I thought my local paint man bought the paint in, but they dont the machine does it all.

Most suppliers will just get the closet possible, I couldn't get the NH343P Pearl Sparkle Black for my red and black bike, R203M Procyon Red Metallic was no problem.

Full resprays are no problem but sorting one panel could be tricky.

I just went for the common Ford Puma Black so any probs I could get it fixed with out any fancy pancy colour probs. And I can remember what the colour code is!

Thats right although RS paints do tend to have a lot more of the old honda colours than most places, their bloody expensive tho. My paint supplier is getting so fed up with me asking for paints that havent been formulated im trying to source good original panels of all colours so he can match them and record the formulas for future use. They will be in solvent based paint tho, cant see the point in water based paint unless your a large bodyshop and have to toe the health and safety guidelines, theres no such thing as a decent water based lacquer so you have to use a solvent lacquer to cover it anyway.

I have used RS and apart from the cost there ok especially if doing the whole bike. I rattle canned a set of fairings a few year ago and the white NH196 Ross white Cellulose was very close to perfect when matched againt an oem panel but I did get some year ago and it was water based. not a great match when next to an oem panel. Nice nozzles on the cans.. great spray pattern.

I still have got a full can of RS Dionysus blue PB22B which I only srayed on a bit card to check and the colour seemed perfect. (offers on a postcard, couriers may moan though)

Finally just a month ago I sent them a new mudguard to match for P5m Jockey Blue (err.. its actually Purple, Honda!) as they had no real idea what I was talking about with it being called blue. They matched it and tests look ok but its waterbased pearl.. So dont know how it will look on my tank, eventually.

Unless your putting a 2k lacquer over the the top i wouldnt put in on your tank.

Yep i know. I will either approch a local painter to laquer on right away or another option is that i have some 2k in a rattle can. Dunno what its like as i bought it ages ago. Basicly theres a button in the bottom of the can and you press this and use it within 24 hours.

Just an update on my last post here mentioning Rs paints waterbased paint and the 2k laquer in a can.

First the waterbased pearl paint, it went down ok and covered perfect within 3 coats. It dried matt and looked ok. The worrying part putting decals dry on waterbased went smoother than expected but im not sure if i had made a mistake if the paint would have lifted if i had moved the decal. Finally the 2k in a can. Well im really impressed. It went on well, one light coat and 3 wetter coats. The depth of gloss compared to normal rattle cans was very impessive .. It dried very quickly and the pearlesent effect of the purple waterbased paint just makes you go "wow" when you catch the pearlesent effect in the sunlight.. Very impressed.. Remember the 2k stuff is very poisiness so use a mask...

A tip for decals. Use a mist sprayer and spray a light amount of water over the panel before applying the decal. This should give a certain amount of movement. Use a silicone blade to smooth the decal out and disperse the water

Yep with it being waterbased paint the last thing i wanted to do was water it down and make a mess of a decent spray. Luckily i was perfect in my first stick down, a hold your breath moment believe me.
