3TJ Starting Problem
Hi - I've got a 3TJ that won't start on the button. I've charged the battery (and tried another battery from my other one - 4DX which was starting fine), I've changed the Regulator, changed the Solenoid and checked all connections are good. The bike starts easily with a bump start but when using the electric start it sounds like a relay is just clicking - and seems to kill the battery. I haven't changed the starter motor yet and thought I'd ask on here before stripping things down that far. Any help much appreciated - thanks

Re: 3TJ Starting Problem
Whip the connector off the solenoid and check the voltage you're getting when you press the starter.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Re: 3TJ Starting Problem
It could be the earth lead breaking down. Easiest way to check is get a car jump lead, connect one end to the engine (exhaust downpipes are good) and the other end to the battery negative. If that improves the cranking speed then it's deffo the engine earth going awol. It goes to the very back of the gearbox under the front of the battery.
