NC29 New regulator rectifier running extremely hot

New Regulator Rectifier running extremely hot.

Right chaps, need your input and experience on this one!!!

I had a rectifier pop then cooked the battery a few weeks ago, i bought a new rectifier mit cooling fins as a replacement. With the addition of a new gel battery.

Now before I fitted the rectifier i check the ohms resistance of the of wiring which were within the expected limits. plus the charging rate was measured at the battery was 14.21 as you would expect from a good battery.
The problem is, i ran the bike for 5 mins tonight, and bloody hell you cant even touch the rectifier is that hot, and I’ve got asbestos fingers.

In all my years of racing and riding, i can never recall a rectifier getting that bloody hot before.hat

What you think chaps.

Cheers
Mart

I know the shunt types do get hot quickly. If it aint charging the battery its going out as heat. What make is it and if you bought new, why did you not go for mosfet as discussed in another post? The one i have barely gets warm on a 30 mile ride. Thinking about it. A static bike and fully charged battery may have a bearing.
