Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
I reckon that Ersan can sort it out - Christ, he has had the ballache of this thread!
I don't think that the pickup is an issue - it either picks up the signal or it doesn't. If it runs, it is good.
Blue smoke- when revving it's tits off in neutral? Sod that. Is it not rideable? Just get on it and stop looking for faults.
You have got a duff battery - fix that. I suspect that the bike just has not got enough battery power to sustain high revs. Batteries are cheap enough - get a Varta or Numax or some other decent make. Check your stator, rg rec etc and make sure that it all works properly.
Then just ride the fecker!

Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
Have I missed something, last I read the only issue was wet weather hiccups. Now we have moved onto blue smoke and fuel smell.
As CMSMJ1 says, if it starts and runs, get on it and ride it.
Why rev your engine over 9000 rpm in neutral. Not a good idea, no load on reciprocating parts, such treatment has been know to break parts big time. Are you trying to say there is a new problem at high rpm?

Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
I don't think there is a lot wrong with the bike that couldn't be sorted quickley and cheaply by somebody who knows a lot about these bikes.xivlia wrote:yeah, i know theyre not all like this. i need to give it to a mechanic, but its going to cost soo much to fix the problems. i am very depressed with it of course, i wasnt expecting this bike to be this much of a problem, previous owner did onyl say the rear brake needed cleaning..... clearly not, and i do admit i did fuck up a few times with over tightening screws and snapping them.. but, the bike was dying before i bought it. and the owner knew it and sold it...
You keep stabbing in the dark at random problems and pulling straws... spending time and money painting panels and other cosmetic stuff when you should have just rode the bike.
I said a long time ago, old bikes can be very expensive as components have a shelf life and it will need maintainance and servicing.
The pickup being higher up shouldn't hurt if it's still picking up the signal it will run.
However, it wont' cause it to be rich or lean, thats from the carbs.
I don't know how to say it anymore simpler? I've said it many times but get somebody to help you who knows a lot about these bikes, preferably somebody from this forum who is experienced.
I'm not knocking your effort attemps but I really think your making things a lot worse, not on purpose but by not knowing what your doing properly.
Many of this could be solved by somebody helping you get it running, you'll learn properly too.
While many people including myself give you suggestions on how to fix things we can only go on your diagnosis.
The problem with this is like treating some strange skin condition you might have by using google.
There can be many causes creating the same symptoms, without the full picture (i.e. somebody experienced to see the bike) people might be giving you bad advice.
The result is you spend time and money and it doesn't work right.
There not difficult to work on to get running sweet but you do need to know them well or you'll go around in circles.

As Neo said - they are simple beasts.
Make sure the battery and charging system is right - 2 hours tops, maybe £30 battery, £30 reg rec, £30 stator
Make sure the carbs and airbox are all setup - 2-100 hours! First, check the settings, jets and clean them. Make sure you have a standard airbox.
the brakes work - easy - fluid is cheap, bleed them. New pads - cannot get them wrong - £30
the suspension works - new fork oil and seals £30 - or get a RICK O kit for £85
the majority of bolts are there and are as tight as they should be - Easy, an hour with a proper toolkit.
If you have problems, tackle them properly. Bodges are dangerous and are a waste of time and effort unless you have to do them...i.e stranded in the middle of zombie land, late for your own wedding...

Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
hmm okay, well i shall try again tomorrow and this time ride it and see how it goes. i really do need to check my stator. and my bikes battery is showing me 13.4v at 5k rpm so thats fine. one more thing when the choke is turn on while the bike has warmed up. the bikes revs drop almost instantly and cut out. i am guessing this is due to drowning. i will pop my carbs out and fix this richness issue.

Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
In all seriousness, if you plan on keeping this bike: Why don't you just start again? Strip it right back to bare frame completely dismantled. Turn the frame into a rolling frame, sorting out the bearings, hub, forks etc. Fix up the engine whilst it's out the frame, make a nice loom and tape it all up, replace connectors etc. Drop the engine in, strip and completely rebuild the carbs and whack an exhaust on. Then spend £50 on a vac gauge set, fire up the naked bike, tune the carbs so they're all sync'd, see how you go from there.
If you start from scratch and check each/every component along the way, it's very hard to have a bike that doesn't run well.
