well. ive checked both starter clutch and starter motor. and they both seem mechanically fine... only issue is now the earthing... if thats faulty. then its not gonna get free flowing current hence why its jamming... as it would happen if you had low battery, see my point?

Insufficient current flow does not cause a grinding noise or jamming. If you think the starter motor is stalling due to insufficient current and your battery has a good charge, then yes check the connections between the battery -ve terminal and the chassis, the connection between the battery +ve terminal and the starter solenoid and the starter solenoid and the starter motor. If they are all good then perhaps the starter solenoid is faulty. Have you monitored the battery voltage while pressing the starter button, what reading do you get?
Is the clicking noise you refer to, is it coming from the starter motor or the starter solenoid?

well im pretty sure it is a jamming noise.. becuase it spins and spins and then *CLONK* it jams, and wont spin gain when i press the starter switch, untill i wait a few minutes and move the bike forwards and backwards. i know there are eathing issues because the indicators have a delay on them when pressing the buttons. because i have cleaned the switch etc and still has problems.

Whats "spins and spins", the starter motor or the engine? Is the bike in gear when you move it backwards and forwards, what does waiting a few minutes do? What tests on the starter clutch did you do to verify that it functions correctly? How
Put the indicator problem to one side until your have resolved the starter motor problem.

You havn't cleaned the switch properly or the contacts in the switch are shot.xivlia wrote:well im pretty sure it is a jamming noise.. becuase it spins and spins and then *CLONK* it jams, and wont spin gain when i press the starter switch, untill i wait a few minutes and move the bike forwards and backwards. i know there are eathing issues because the indicators have a delay on them when pressing the buttons. because i have cleaned the switch etc and still has problems.
Did you strip it full to the part where you can see the brass contacts of the indicator?
The starter is earthed through the engine via the frame.
It's very unlikely a bad earth is the cause here unless your main earthlead is knackered.
Don't feel like this is a put-down but I think you have missed something / not checked it properly.
To isolate the earth all you need is a long piece of wire. Put a ring-tab on each end and connect one end to teh starter motor mounting bolts and the other to the battery negative.

Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
there are 2 earths on the NC30
first one is the main one from the battery to the frame in the form of a strap - clean it and refit
the second is on the left hand side near the front coil, and is the main loom earth - again clean and refit and try again.

Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
okay well the starter motor spins, and then it jams... which in turn jams the engine from spinning. waiting a few minutes before atempting to pres the starter switch again seems to solve the jamming issue, the bike is in neutral when im moving it forwards and backwards, but sometimes i put it in gear... makes no difference. there are no loose screws on the starter clutch, and the cog behind the starter clutch seems to turn freely so the bearing in there feels fine.
hmm.. well its strange because this is my second switch gear, and the problem still persists, so i assumed two switches surely cant be faulty.
i will also check the earths to see if they are fine or not.

Are you sure its the starter jamming and not the engine hydraulic locked ? try removing a couple of plugs and turning over again
