Ersan, leave the starter motor, drain the oil, remove the clutch side engine case,

Check the starter clutch, there are 3 bolts they only require like 15nM of torque off the top of my head, they come loose, inspect the inside of the case for scores and scratching take them out, locktight and torque them back up check for any metal bits in there and the oil you drained, rotate the engine with a 17mm socket and rachet and slowly look at the cog teeth, see if any are missing,

Ive had this problem and solved it, does your engine sound rattly on the rhs?

Ps you can reuse the oil you dont have to ditch it unless its not been changed recently.

You can do a full service yourself, shouldn't be too hard to change oil, coolant, plugs, filters and brake fluid?

Shouldn't cost a bomb either, and the guys on here are always happy to help if you don't bite their head off first.

I wouldn't be riding a bike if one of the brakes wasn't working properly, I also would want to know the bike is mechanically sound and pass a full MOT there and then before I got on it.

I actually like what you've done with your NC, its different and looks good.
But surely your life is worth more than the money it would cost to make your bike safe?

And yeah porndog, was thinking myself that two starter motors cant both be fucked.

hmm i see, okay i shall check the starter clutch, is it necessary to drain the oil? ive recently done oil and oil filter change, and added new spark plugs, and Porndog, yes the bike does sound rattly, but not sure if its on the right hand side. it seem to come from somewhere in the front.

it needs a little more knocking then...it is good that it is tight!

There are some dowels to stop it coming off sideways, so tap to break the seal and draw it off towards you

Starter motors are basic things - take yours to bits and clean it up, put back together and see what you get.

I'd reckon something other than the starter motor is causing it - but you need to be sure and check all the gears, gubbins and what not in the casing. If that shit seizes...you are buggered.

okay. my starter motor has only 3 rear shims rather than 4.... is that the problem? everything else is fine.. the burshes are fine... all 11mm in size, no cracks no chips... there is continuity between all commutator bars. there is NO continuty between the commutator bars and the armature shaft which is also good...
