Best bolt on caliper upgrade?
Hi All,
Just wondered what your thoughts were on the best caliper upgrade is for a straight fit to RVF (if there is one)?
cbr600 fx - cbr600fy
cbr600rr - 03
or firestorm?
Also is it best to get the master cylinder to match with all these?
Cheers

Re: Best bolt on caliper upgrade?
I'm pretty sure the firestorm and fx/fy all use the same calipers as the rvf.
The 03-04 600rr uses the later nissin calipers. These were honda's premium brakes at the time (found on 954rr, sp1/rc51 etc), although now they can be found on many lower level new bikes (cb400 etc).
Yes, you would want the master cylinder from the 600rr to match.
Whichever you end up choosing, make sure you get gold ones!

i'm sure you probably know that although they all look the same, some use different sized pistons and you mate up m/c depending on what you would like from the feel of the brakes.
correct me if I'm wrong but a larger m/c means less lever travel and quicker feel and smaller m/c means more travel but better reliability

FX and FY are the larger calipers mate - I run them on my no9 and used ot on my race bike. They are just back.
I'd go for any of the newer calipers - SP2, CB1300 - get the right m/c and you are laughing

I think the easiest way to identify the 'better' calipers, you'll want the SP/954 calipers with the 2-pin retainers for the pads. The single pin ones from the likes of the Firestorm are the same as the standard RVF ones. Here's what I mean,
SP/954

RVF/Firestorm
