Swing arm finish NC30

Just a couple of questions from a noob.

To put you in the frame I want to return the NC30 to standard visualy, and possibly mod engine carbs de-restrictor etc.

Picked it up about two weeks ago G reg red white and blue and running. But this thing is filthy so bad it is going to require a full rebuild to get it to the standard I expect.

For those of you in the know. is there an original finish on the swingarm? or is it bare alloy? if the latter can you recomend a finnish or is it better to leave bare.(I Have access to a bead blaster)which it is going to need just to clean it up.

Has anyone found a good method of fixing the underside lower fairings together after the lugs have snapped twice and someone has already glued them together with epoxy

Have you tried WD40 and a nylon brush? You will be amazed at how clean you can get it from scrubbing.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no finish on the swingarms.

What kind of state are they in? I can tell you how to fix the lugs back to their original shape if needs be. Pictures would be a help.
Push comes to shove, you can send me them and I'll repair them with carbon for the price of postage here and back.

Also, VFRman is correct, the swingarms have no finish, its just aluminium cast in a certain way that gives the surface a grainy texture. Scrub it with a brush and soap, or wire brush it back to a shine. I did. The entire rear swingarm and back wheel was in my bedroom for 2 months waiting for a new frame to go onto. OR you can get a carbon fibre swingarm cover if you can find one. Most of us dont bother, tho, as its only aesthetic and does nothing for the strength of the arm.

The two largest panels have three or four 1" overlaps on the lowest side, I can only assume that these were not undone at some time, and have been snapped in the process of removal. But as I said they have botched a repair and as they are original panels, all be it with a few scuffs, I would like to make a proper job. I am very interested in your kind offer of a repair for the cost of post and packaging I will try to send you some photos as soon as i work out how!


While i am on the subject of bodywork, could anyone tell me if the small tabbed nuts which hold the front mudguard to the hangers can be purchased?

They're 6 mm rivet nuts. Not too hard to find. You can get them in alloy and stainless if you look hard enough.
