Help! Somethings gone wrong! :-(
Hi guys.
So took my bike out today for the first time since fitting my new Blueflame exhaust:

Was riding along the country roads, had been for about 10 minutes, came up behind this Mini so slowed down a bit and then it felt odd, like it was losing power, like when you run out of fuel... I knew I had fuel as I only filled up the other day, and when I pulled over it was still idling fine, so switched it off. Turned it back on again and continued home. Again, it was when the revs were low and I had slowed down, when I got into town when it was really struggling... Got home ok but something was definitely up. Now I ask the obvious question could it be I somehow cocked up fitting the exhaust? Or could it be something else, just coincidence that it's happened now?

could possibly be the vacuam pipe from the fuel tap to carbs (small bore hose) check that first it might be perished or collapsing with the engine heat causing fuel starvation ?

I'd be suspecting the usual charging issues - RVF lights are always on and with low revs the battery struggling to run the bike.
DO the usual reg rec checks adn alternator checks and also see what the voltage of the battery is before you start it

I think I have found the problem - this one has a baffle, the other didn't :-)

Sounds like the carb pilot screws need adjusting to match your new muffler.em2evol wrote:I think I have found the problem - this one has a baffle, the other didn't :-)

Yeah it's quieter which I was pleased about - going to be louder when I take out the baffle though eh!

Re: Help! Somethings gone wrong! :-(
Ok so had a new alternator fitted the other week which was supposed to stop the bike conking out from having no power charging the battery... Well was half way to Basingstoke from Newbury today (10ish miles), had been pushing it quite a bit, overtakern a few cars and then it just started losing power... Pulled over, conked out... Wouldn't start. Left it a while and it started, so I carried on my (wary) way. Got to Basingstoke, left the bike for about an hour, then when I started it, no issues - all fine, got to the end of the road and no power, conked out on a t junction. Wouldn't start. Left it a bit, still wouldn't start. Tried the choke on and it started. So carried on with the choke on for a bit, then after about 2 mins turned it off and got home ok... Now I'm going to investigate Dave's suggestion above, but is there anything else this could be? I had a new (used) left switch gear fitted the other week too and it seems a bit dodgey as my headlights weren't working... Don't know if that would factor into it... Any help at all would be greatly appreciated - I hate the thought of being stranded by myself somewhere miles from home!

sounds like rectifier is knackered.
however i will say if the battery is old and been fried i would be changing that too as a matter of course.
if you were to unlug the headlamp connectors from the lights that may buy you a bit more time between conk outs.
