Number plates

Post by VFR400+ »

Want to replace the plate on the bike as having rebuilt it the plate is the only bit left that is still battered.

Its currently 9" x 7" and just looks HUGE!!!

Have mocked up a 8" x 5" plate which looks so much tidier but wondered what the chances of getting pulled with it are. As for MOT I will keep hold of the old old so they can be swapped round.

Just dont want to attract unnecessary attention from the rozzers, at the same time dont want to ruin the rear end of the tyga kit.

I have an 8" x 5" plate and it hasn't been mentioned by the police ................yet!

I know rules are rules, and if something happens I'll take the hit.

You can see it in the pics of my bike in Practical Sportsbike Magazine. ;)

IMHO it's not worth fitting an illegal (let's call it what it is) number plate.

But in my younger days I did fit 7x5.5. This keeps almost exactly the proportions of the original plate, so it is harder to spot the fact that it is too small from any distance. Your 8x5 will give a suspiciously letterbox profile, which makes it much easier to spot.

If you get caught, expect to be hit hard for it, as police tend to consider this "attempting to pervert the course of justice", since you were attempting to conceal your registration number by printing it too small. ISTR that you get hit lighter (if more often) for no plate at all.

Plod take a dim view of non-standard number plates for two reasons.
1/The law is the law
2/Non standard plates cannot be read by ANPR cameras so they would question whether the rider has something to hide
