lost in swingingarm

hi, ok i have lost a 12mm socket in the swinging arm, i was tightening the rear manifold thing on the exhaust, i then removed the the ratchet but the socket was stuck to the nut, so i tapped with a hammer, it then fell into the suspension, then fell into the hole in swinging arm on the inside were the spring is, how can i get it out ,is the whole swinging arm hollow, can i take it off while leaving the hub intact or is there another access point

best bet is to take the hub out and use a telescopic magnet thingy, its hollow down the centre, other wise a homemade magnet on a something bendy one ideally, or one of the bendy grabber things,

How big is the hole?
You could take the shock off so it gave you more access.

done it lol. thanks for the idea , took some magnets ( ripped them out ) of an old calculator case, attached some stirng to it , then put it down the same hole but couldnt't get it so to push down as it is string lol so attached a tie wrap to the magnet pushed it down the swinging-arm it grabbed the socket, felt like it was 15cm down so somewhere in the middle , didnt need to take the hub off, must say thanks for the idea

The exact same thing happened to me! Couldn't believe it, had to pick the back of the bike up in the air and got my girlfriend to grab it with a magnet on a stick when we heard it roll to the front of the swing arm near the pivot.

Ha ha first thing i said that to myself when the socket dropped in the swing arm!

Lol yer it was a nightmare, I didn't mention this earlier but I hadn't realises it even fell in there , didn't even know them holes existed, I heard it rattle around, so had a look around everywhere, basically cleared the entire garage out just to see if it had actually fell somewhere else, took the clutch/sprocket cover off thinking it rolled down the chain, then after about 2 hours of removing most parts and cursing, I saw them holes, I was not happy, I only wanted to tighten the rear manifold plate thing which is hard enough due to limited acess, it must have fell off the nut I was tightening rolled onto one of the coils of the shock then rolled down into that hole, one of those 1 in million things, the magnet idea device thing though was brilliant, so good infect I am officially adding it to my toolbox .Hearing the socket being picked up by the magnet was one of the greatest sounds
