NC23 Air filter and Main Jets Question...any advice?

Post by LozVTR »

hey all,

Ive got two questions, but firstly I was taking the cbr apart today and looking at the air inlets, The inlets go into the frame and then out again behind the headstock. when I was going to remove the airbox I relasied that there was a gap between the frame and the airbox? am I missing something there? see pics below hopefully they expalin what I mean.

and the 2 questions are:

1. What choices of airfilter do I had on the 23 (K&N etc)?

2. What main jet sizes do people run with a full stainless system?

cheers all.

Hi Loz,

mine has rubbers on the 2 ovals where the airbox slots into the frame, looking at your photo, yours doesnt appear to have these.

Cheers

Loz What you have got there is an NC23RRJ model (1988 First of the tri-arms) witch has a different air box to the later model (NC23RRK 1989) what you have there is totally normal for your bike, The best thing you can do with that is make your self up a heat shield that goes over the radiator and under the air scoops to stop the hot air coming in through the rad, Use the stock Honda filter (works really well) and leave it well alone ! These bikes are very sensitive to air box mods and the stock set up works really well .. As for jets i would start with 118MJ and fine tune it from there good luck keep us posted ... :D

thanks for the advice simon,
it would of helped if id mentioned it was a 88 bike really...oopps :D

There was a large peice of rubber which sat over the top of the rad but it was badly perished, what would be the best thing to use as a heatshield?

Ive heard from others that 118 jets are the way to go, so il try that and tinker from there.

what size mains has it got in now? if your running the full system 1 size up from standard should be somewhere near, mne only ran 110's with the heads worked, cams and a full system.
