vfr nc24 front side light for MOT ?

Post by jimmy400notts »

I have just got a VFR400 nc24, I have checked the lights and it does not seemed to have a front side light. Does it need one for the mot and if so, does it have one fitted as standard. I can't see where the bulb would go !
Please help. Thanks, James

No, it doesn't have one and it doesn't need one. The NC24 is a JDM model and therefore would have originally ran ambers. If you take a look at your indicator bulbs, you will see that they are twin filament type.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

The bike has a side-light switch, which might confuse some MOT testers.

In this position the rear light will be on as well as the indicators dimly if they were still wired up (obv not, somebody has cut the blue/white and orange white wires to each bulb respectivly)

I like the indicators as sidelights but in this country nobody is used to it so likely to pull infront of you a lot and you cant have Orange lights at the front, although technically they are on the side of the bike.. but are classed as front position lamps. (can you tell the bike wasnt designed for in the uk yet? :P)
Front position lamps and headlamps
Definition:
A motor bicycle (with or without a side car) fitted with a headlamp need not have a front position lamp (but must have one on the side car, if a side car is fitted).
Inspection Method:
2. Check the front and rear position lamps show light of the correct colour
Reasons for Rejection
2. a. a front position lamp shows a light other than WHITE to the front, or yellow if incorporated in a yellow headlamp)
b. a rear position lamp shows a light other than RED to the rear
If they are fussy you can ask them to get that out and say it has no front ones.

I've never had a problem but my MOT tester isn't a complete arse and will often ask things about the bike if there unsure, not make an assumption.
