Good brake discs will be aroud for a long time, the size and mounting holes has been used by loads of models and maybe still being used now.
Gaskets are easy to make yourself and even the compression gaskets for the head can be made by a third party.
Most parts can be made if you have enough money. Cosworth will fab you up a set of custom made pistons.
How many miles are you planning on riding? Most engines will run for over 100,000kms.
Catastrophic failures will be the hardest to repair, a rod breaking and going through the barrels, a camshaft snapping.
You could hoard away a few running engines when they crop up cheap. The chances of 3 engines all dying if looked after properly is quite rare.
Most people who still ride these bikes still buy them becuase there cheap to run / insure and easier to ride and pass them off as soon as they want to ride something bigger.
While this is reducing the number of good examples about the serious collectors will already have good bikes and good parts, with these rough models still circulating its easy to snap up an accident damaged one for parts.
The good side of these bikes is that there were a lot made and since they are fairly new (compared to say a 50s/60s bike) is that the reliability of the bikes is much better due to modern engineering so even second hand parts are usually serviceable and there should be quite a few of these.
If your a serious collector a complete spare bike is the best way to be certain

I live in New Zealand so i'll have to get it shipped. I'm willing to pay 60AUD for a crank in known good condition that doesn't knock but you'd probably rather keep it which is fair enough.Cammo wrote:Have never sold one before.
