well i got some red rubber grease on a cotton wool bud to catch any swarf when i removed, then cleaned the grease out then tightened it up and to my suprise no thread damage
the one side is a m10 1.00 pitch the other was m10 1.25pitch
the 1.00 measured 9.29mm and
the 1.25 measured 9.85mm so i guess it was a case of the 1.00 just catching the threads.
alls well tho.

That is almost as bad as the time a got a new socket set and couldn't get the bit on...only to ask a mate who then pushed a button on the back and said to me "Every day is a school day!"
