3TJ wont start now guys, think its well flooded.....
Hi guys...
Ok so as you know I put a standard system on my bike after replacing the stator and it used to start on the button. Now after the cold weather it wont start, it fires but the battery then just goes flat... I think its well flooded...
Anyone any suggestions on best way to start it? Charging battery now so can try again tomorrow. I think it almost ran out of fuel so I put some more in but when I try to start it coughs and tries but wont start......
Any tips on how to un flood it and best way to start it? Choke off on etc etc.....
Thanks
Steve

check to see if its defo flooded first, take the plugs out and see if they are dripping or just wet, might be that they are dirty or oily so clean them up and leave open for a while to let some of the fuel evaporate, could leave the plugs out and spin her over a few times with the fuel turned off but this might not be a great idea. how long was it turning over before the battery died?

Hi mate
it used to start first flick.... It turned over loads, at first it coughs like its going to start then just turds and turns..... Really confused... Will fully charge the battery tonight and see tomorrow.
Should I have choke on full, no throttle and just hit the start button?

When you start an FZR from cold let the fuel pump cycle until it stops, you might need to flick the kill switch off and on again.
Then choke on and no throttle.
If it's set up right it should fire up.
It might be that you ran it low on fuel which was enough to stop it firing.
If you haven't changed the plugs in the last year I'd look at that too.

Hi Evil,
thanks mate, will give it a go in the morning as per instruction but I think I will treat her to a new set of plugs.... Any specific ones, iridium, etc etc....

I use NGK CR10EK twin prong on my race bike.

If the bike's been stood a while in low temperatures then any water in the fuel will have sunk to the bottom of the tank and got drawn through the fuel pump when you went to start it. Some fresh fuel and perseverance should sort it out

The standard plug typoe is NGK CR8E are £5.16 and the irridium type CR8EIX are £5.90 each from http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/
Twin electrode plugs (the CR8EK) are £6.82
I can't remember exactly but I think the number represents the temp of the plug a CR10 will be a colder plug than an 8 - the electrode is higher up so doesn't get heated by the combustion in the cylinder. They're good for high engine speed or hot conditions but they make the bike a little bit more difficult to cold start

Hi guys thanks for the replies. Ordered 4 x iridium plugs, is there a guide or anything on easiest way to change them? The fairings are all off at the moment anyway.

Should have mentioned as well, you all know my exup valve isnt connected at the moment as no idea where the cables go still..... Would that have any effect if the valve is open or closed at the moment? I can turn it by hand of course just wasnt sure which position its best for starting.....
