My 2TK has 3 pin 35/35w headlight bulbs fitted, same fitment as a standard car bulb H4.
If I change the standard bulbs for the higher wattage car bulbs will it cause problems? I'm just thinking about replacements as i can't seem to find the 35/35w bulbs for sale anywhere.

Re: headlight bulbs
35/35w bulbs aren't quite the same fitment as H4. On the H4 there are two tabs sticking out that will need to be flattened
BTW, you may need to change the fuse to a 15A for twin headlights but the loom should be plenty up to the job

Re: headlight bulbs
You might have had the lamps replaced for some Yamaha UK ones, in which case they'd take H4's. The standard FZ600 lights were 35/35watt (sad that I remember that far back, huh), so you could probably find them at a bike shop. I put in standard car bulbs and it was ok ...
I fitted 55/60's into my Bimota and the wiring sheaths went hard over the space of 18months then the wires broke so I'd have to advise you to fit lighting relays.

The headlight circuit is already relayed. You issues were due to the heat generated, not a direct cause from the extra current flow so extra relays is a waste of time.
If you think heat may be an issue, fit a small PC fan around the headlight cluster.
IN fact, OP, I think I may have some 35/35w bulbs if you want them? PM me your address and I'll post them out when/if I find them.

Re: headlight bulbs
The "heat" is generated in the wire due the current draw of the bigger capacity bulbs. The relays were fitted by a garage and since then there's been no issue.

Re: headlight bulbs
I took my 2TK out today and came home in the dark. I'd forgotten how crap the standard headlights are. I managed to find some 45/45 headlight bulbs on ebay that are the same fitment, maybe they'll improve things a bit. They should be ok with the standard 10A fuse. I'm not keen on going for 55/60 bulbs, upping the fuse to 15A is one thing but I can't be bothered with adding relays
