1WG Battery
Hi All,
I recently bought an FZR 400 1wg to put on the track but have a plethora of prblems!!
1. Battery is dead - is there an alternative to the CB12AL-A2 I can run in it (not using any lights etc will a lower amp unit do?) Preferably maintentance free
2. Shocks need new oil but I cannot find what weight or volume to put in (i'm 5'9" & 15 1/2 Stone)
3. It came with a Ducati 916 fairing to put on it - only problem left now is that the seat unit reveals the expansion bottle. Can I run without it? Is there a specific volume for the bottle?
1st post so apologise if it is listed elsewhere (had a quick trawl back to '08 posts but didn't find anything)
Thanks

Re: 1WG Battery
If your on the track will you have a battery chargerplugged into a genny / a van that you can put a jump start pack in / just ride it there ???
All you really need is enough battery to keep the bike from stopping so if you have a gennerator the smallest 12v sealed for life battery should be fine - think of something from a moped. Race bikes usually have a total loss system where they junk the generator and charging circuit to save weight, the bike fires off the charge in the battery.
"Shocks" ... twin shock
replace the rear unit with a resprung late R6 unit (red spring) and jack up on the dogbones to get the tail to the right height. 15wt oil in the forks and tune them with the airgap .... new springs might be a good idea.
Up to you with the bodywork .... can't you put the bottle in the top fairing.

thanks for the advice - found a couple of direct replacements for the CB12AL-A2
http://www.biker-discount.co.uk/motobat ... 2392-p.asp
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT (not his exact one bu they mailed to say they had a direct replacement)

Re: 1WG Battery
for the expanson get yourself an old pop bottle, drill out the lid and push the expansion tubing into it, cable tie it under the front fairing on the back (or front?) of the clock mounting bracket, job done, no problems passing scrutineering! if you want to be posh you can use one of the sports bottles, but little ribena ones work well as they have a nice flat section just right for two cable ties!reduces weight! i use the standard battery running total loss and plug in the optimate each time i stop. i know some (spit
) hondas use 7ah batteries and last a race no probs, but i've got a bdk ignition so i like to have the extra there!
