'90 NC30/'07 CBR600RR USD Swap

Post by JeffersonNC30 »

I know the USD thing has been beaten to death numerous times so I apologize for bringing it up once again, but I searched the wealth of knowledge here and couldn't quite find the answer.

I have a 1990 NC30 that I'm looking to do a USD conversion on. Living across the pond (Canada) from most of you, the RVF forks etc are next to impossible to find here. I would like to keep everything in the Honda family though, so I was thinking '07 CBR600RR front end (plus radial brakes would be nice).

I know a few of you have done it, and it appears it's very straight forward on a NC29, but I'm not sure about a NC30. Do NC29 and NC30 run the same front end? What is the stock offset for a NC30? I thought it was 35mm, and I know the CBR is 35mm. I remember reading somewhere that the length of the CBR forks is reasonably close to the NC30 as well, so I don't anticipate too many problems in the steering geometry. I would like to get it done keeping the CBR triple trees, as my bank account doesn't really like the idea of the $800 G-Force triples right now. I anticipate needing a custom steering stem machined which is fine, revalving, as well as running a CBR front wheel, but is there anything else I should be aware of? Any clearance issues etc I should be worried about?

Thanks.

If you do stumble across some RVF forks you'll need this spacer and bearings,

I had this fitted to my bike for literally no time at all as I broke the bike after I bought my CBR to fund trick bits for it. Bike was like this,

I make Tripleclamps to convert the CBR600RR forks to the NC-30. I made the set for Venom that was referred to here.

And they work perfectly. It has turned out to be one of the most confidence inspiring front ends I have ever ridden.

Well I'd love a set of your G-Force Triples, but right now the bank account says otherwise. Are your triples the same dimensions as stock or have you made some tweaks? I'm a little concerned that the CBR forks might be too wide (with stock triples) causing a clearance issue or two, but I haven't been able to find the dimensions for the forks tubes center to center anywhere online.

Jefferson:

I can do either stock VFR/RVF width or stock CBR600RR width. Venom51 and Lohmeyer run the CBR width and have not had any complaints. I believe this is 104mm (from memory measured over 2 years ago) from center of fork to center of fork.

Hi Mike,
Are these gems still available? if so at what price and what timescale? specifically for CBR600RR 07 forks to an NC35.

Andy
