NC35 Tyre Choice

Hi everyone,

You'll have to forgive me, as I'm still in the first year of owning the bike and it is my first bike so don't too much about them.

I need to buy two new tyres for the bike. I was at the MCN show the other week, and one guy on the Bridgestone stand suggested to me to use the Michelin 2CT tyres. I've always read people using Bridgestone tyres?

I don't use the bike to commute, so only really gets used on nice weekends and evenings etc, only really used it once or twice this winter...

What would you recommend?

2CT's are good tyes.. I didn't know they made them in 150's though?

Softer tyres are good but they work best when warmed up and don't last as long.. If your only riding in good weather sportier tyres may be the best option.

BT090's are the sporty bridgstones for this bike.. they don't last as long as the more touring based BT92's.

I currently have some Continental ContiSport Attack's on my ZXR and they do them in 150 to fit the VFR too! I've found there a great all round tyre and very similar priced to the bridgestone.

The majority of people on here do seem to stick with the BT090 / BT92 as it's a tried / tested good tyre.

If you can get 2CT's in the right size though i'd really reccomend you give them a go.. there not gonig to last too long, 4k'ish but are great for 'spirited' rides and trackdays.. like glue round the bends :D

I fancy a set of dunlop alpha a10 on the NC30 - has anyone got any thoughts on these compared to the BT090's?

If I can get the Michelin in the correct size, I might give them a go as they seem to get good reviews from what i've read this afternoon on the web.

150/60 17 rear and 120/60 17 front are what I should be putting on it?

The 2ct are only available in a 160/60-17 rather than a 150 but it should go on ok. I run a 160 on the back of my NC30 at the moment with no probs

what would be the advantage/disadvantage of putting a 160 on instead of a 150?

I found no difference running a 160. The wider tyre does look a bit sexier though. Some people say that the 150 makes the bike turn in sharper and handle a bit better, but until I change I cant confirm this.

Supposedly a wider contact patch; corner ability may be reduced though.
Even though the choices seem to fall on 2 or 3 different tyres, ultimately they are very much a personal thing; so I'd try the more popular choice first (BT090) which I think are actually cheaper than the Michelin!?
The Dunlop Alpha10's are supposed to be very good as well; regardless of which one you go for, if you can, get the correct sizes (120/60-17F & 150/60-17R).

I think I'll stay with the standard size tyre as I'm still new to the bike etc... I'll keep you all posted as to what tyre I get

Well what tyres are on the bike now?

Personally if you can't get them in the right size just get a set of BT-090's
