Hi Ugo - doing ok with it thanks and got it running real sweet now thanks! I've taken off the original exhaust and cut down a bandit 1200 link pipe and put a motogp carbon stubby on it which tucks away great and sounds a treat. Next job i've gotta do is new clutch plates as it slips real bad if i give it some. Also need some new rear shocks as mine bottom out when carrying a pillion.
I love the comfort of xjr tho and i think they're a great loooking bike :)

Ah, seems almost we have the very same bike. Mine is in need of new shocks as well. I hear Hagons aare quite good value for £££
Some folks told me you can fit the Ohlins from the 1300 but, assuming it's true, I'm not sure whether you'd want to do that. They might be a bit too stiff...

Hi mate, I have a 93 too, have had it for 4 years ald love it. Got the same rear shock problem too, there are some aftermarket ones fitted which are ok but the bike came with some original Yamaha ones with a seperate reservoir like the Ohlins. One leaks so they have been on the shelf in the garage. Been looking for some info on how to referb them.

Hey guys.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I've just picked one up and its wearing 10 year old BT45's!!

What boots are yours wearing as Ive been looking and I'm thinking of changing the front from a 110/70 to a 120/70 and the rear to a 160/60 rather than the 150/50 thats on there at the mo.

Oh and I've only managed 80MPH on mine I thought that was about it due to the riding position.

Cheers

Personally I wouldn't fit bigger tyres to this type of bike, the smaller ones will give quicker steering.

Hi there, I've just brought myself an XJR400 and overall its in pretty good condition. I do however have a hole rusted through the bottom of the standard exhaust. I read that a bandit 1200 link pipe was used above, if I buy one of these and use a slip on micron can I have from my old bike will the link pipe be the right diameter already?

Measure them ?
Most cans / systems are a generic diameter. If you can't find a standard link pipe you can probably have one made up have a look in a classic bike or practical sportbike type magazine.
Generic cans will flow differently to the original can so it would be best to have the bike set up on a dyno afterwards

Hiya - The bandit link pipe was a little to big where it slips over the downpipes/header end but I just used an angle grinder to make some slits in the end of the link pipe then used an exhaust clamp to tighten it together. I was going to get a step down wire wool type bandage thingy (for want of a proper name?!! lol) to put in the link pipe but managed to do it without.

If you get a bandit link pipe just make sure you cut it in the right place so that the bends best suit the fitment to the XJR - mine looked lovely and snug and well fitted. (And you'll have to grind off what looks like a centre stand 'stopper'/bracket that the bandit link pipe has on it - you don't see where it was really as it sits underneath when fitted to the XJR.)

Had to put standard can back on mine at the moment - my son uses it for work and is up at 5.30am - the stubby was a little . . . NO VERY loud for early morning starts and didn't want to upset the neighbours ;)

Hope that helps

. . . the reason I used a stubby was because it fitted the best - larger end cans - either oval or round fowl the swing arm ;) - the stubby tucks away real beaut (sounds austrailian!!) underneath the passenger footrest hanger
