400GreyBike.com annual meet/national day

Nothing more to say really, if it's been organised it'll be here.

400GreyBike.com annual meet/national day

Post by Johnny Wishbone » Tue Jul 26, 2011 9:20 am

I thought I'd start a thread for further discussion on having a large forum meet up. I've been a member on a few forums over the years and one thing I've noticed is lacking from this one is the staging of a show/annual get together. I know there are small regional group gatherings fairly regularly and normally there is a forum trackday every year but I think a meet up/show planned/organised with a view to getting as many forum members together as possile is a great idea. I figured if I brought the subject up now, then theres a good chance something might happen next year.

I've got a few ideas but I'm not sure of the best way to start. Maybe a poll to see who would be interested in attending such an event?

I knew you were going to say that!

Thats one of the difficulties in organising something. There's always someone who feels it's too far from them. It either has to be as central as possible or, if it becomes an annual thing, it can alternate between different areas. I was on an SV650 owners forum a few years back and their annual ride out would be down south one year, the next it would be the Midlands, the next year Scotland and so on.

It may be but given as it's nothing more than a meet up in a car park, I can't see it enticing many more members to attend, especially those that live a fair trek from the venue.

A similarly central location but with camping facilities and useful local amenities like, pubs, restaurants and hotels would be ideal. What would be equally as good would be if you can piggyback onto an existing event like last weekends Billing Bikefest for example held at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton. Billing Aquadrome is basically just a public campsite that is hosting a motorcycle show so you arrange the meet to coincide with it. That way no one individual has to commit to organising a venue or accomodation for a group, as each individual can take care of their respective entry and accomodation plans. It gives attendees lots to do aside from mingling with fellow forum members, as their is a bike show on, not to mention the sites permanent leisure facilities, it offers accomodation facilities with the camping and local hotels for those wishing to make a weekend of it and there is plenty of places to eat and socialise on site and close by.

Sounds good I elect you chief organiser

Camping would be cool with maybe a trackday thrown in or a mass rideout. I couldn't care where it is if its camping, further away the better.

Don't be electing me chief organiser, I'm only making suggestions. Judging by the amount of people who have posted in this thread, the interest in a forum meet, isn't there.

Trackdays are ok but there are lots of people with no interest in riding on track which is why I like the idea of meet at a bike show or somewhere with leisure facilities. I'm not sure how keen I am on mass ride outs either but then as my NC30 is a track only bike I wouldn't be able to participate anyway.
