Project RVF stocker...ish

Post by Tim400GB » Mon Aug 13, 2018 1:31 pm

Have been looking for an RVF for a long time but didnt want to pay the extortionate prices that some people seem to think they're worth.
This bike popped up as a non runner for a good price so i took the punt the motor etc was ok and got it home into the garage.

Its pretty much original, which is what i wanted, which some nice mods- ohlins shock and some not so nice mods- heated grips, carbon bar ends and scott oiler.
The owner said its been laid up for 18 months not a huge issue but looking at the paperwork it looks more like 6 years, full tank with stabilser - yep like that, coolant drained now with lots of pink crust at all the hose joints - nope dont like that. Hope the carbs arent too bad.

Thought it would be a quick project but my to do list seems to be growing by the minute.
Is it because i'm afaid of actually getting bikes dirty, super ocd or love working on them for the sake of it? Probably a bit of all three

Dam feels good to start a new build thread :rocks:

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick i need you your guruness

pics up soon

LOL - you have the breaking strain of a warm Kit Kat

I am not as bad as you, but even I know how quickly that "ish" can turn into "just a bit of zinc coating,...maybe a few Ti fasteners,....possibly a few carbon bits,......Hmmm a nice trick exhaust would sit well on that now,......... all I need is a set of trick Magnesium wheels" etc etc

Few bits have started turning up, thanks Scott.

New snorkel with no hole, now fitted.

New pillion peg/mount
Image

Tired Ohlins shock out to be sent to Kais for reconditioning/service, put an nc30 shock in so it can be rolled around and start giving it an overall clean.

Well a nice long bank holiday weekend I got into the garage and ...
got next to nothing done because of the little person.
Did manage to get a bit more organised boxing up the bodywork etc and picked up my front paddock stand so that when the parts from Rick arrives I can get the front end out to do the fork rebuild.

Bar ends arrived, tad better than the faux carbon ones
Image

And I removed the bullet connectors someone had chopped into the rear light with.
Image

Prob not very interesting for most but I have to take the small victories of late

Box of goodies arrived from the main man Rick, thanks again!
Battery, fork rebuild/uprate parts, earth upgrade kit, new grips, some service parts and new rear pads. Man all those little bits add up quick!

Image

Also had an organise and this is what i made earlier. Knew I made spares for a reason.

Image

The exhaust on the bike is holding up ok. I do have a freshly polished yamamoto system. Do I put that on this bike to 'fix' the standard one?
